If Obama Wins
I am trying to make myself find something positive about the prospect... I really liked him and John Edwards a lot until I started reading the anti-Hillary threads here by their supporters ... I really did...I contributed to both of their campaigns... I have never contributed to Hillary's campaign... I remember buying Obama's book, "The Audacity Of Hope" before Christmas last year... My girlfriend and best friend are for Hillary... When I told my best friend I was for Obama he said "It figures"...I used to tout his candidacy on other non-political, mostly sports boards whenever the subject came up...

Well, I have found the one thing that will make me feel good...If Obama wins the heads of the folks at Stormfront will just explode...

HeeHawHee

As an aside I think the less I read this board the easier it will be if my first choice candidate loses...In the past I was really upset when Jimmy Carter beat Ted Kennedy and Walter Mondale beat Gary Hart... I can imagine how much more I would have disliked Carter and Mondale if there was a net where I could go and see my candidate trashed every day by their supporters...I now see both men as decent and Mondale as a rather sympathetic figure...

Maybe the solution is for me to read and post less... That way I'll be able to support any of our nominees... The worst Democrat is better than the best Republican unless you can resurrect Abraham Lincoln or Teddy Roosevelt...

5. I Detested Mondale
I used to call him a party hack who practiced the "politics of negativism and despair" but I was really mad at him because he was beating the candidate of my choice, Gary Hart...

If there was a net where I could have went to see Mondale supporters trash Gary Hart I might have been so pissed that I didn't vote in the Fall...

14. Gary Hart inspired me...in 1984, my first presidential election as a voter.
I supported Hart in the primaries but couldn't vote because I wasn't of age. After turning 18 in May, I proudly planted the Mondale/Ferraro bumper sticker on my car (right next to the Iron Maiden sticker) and voted Dem in November. Haven't turned back since...

Sadly, I think Hart beat himself. We know the story. I always wonder "what could've been..."

but when Mondale picked Ferraro ... I was ALL about working to get them elected.

And I proudly had my Mondale/Ferraro sticker next to my Stevie Nicks and Fleetwood Mac ones on my car.

None of the candidates should be judged on that basis. There are too many hotheads and outright disruptors posting here for such threads to qualify as informed and civilized candidate analysis.

4. If Obama wins the primaries, he'll win the presidency.
Because nobody is voting Republican in 2008.

And then he will make mistakes, partly because he's green, partly because the damage done is so huge that whoever wins will be destroyed by it.

But even a few good decisions will make a massive difference and there's every reason to believe he has more than a few good decisions in him.

Just don't expect to get your privacy back. Ain't none of 'em gonna do that.

Personally, I appreciate your contributions here and hope you won't let criticisms of your candidate, unfair or otherwise, turn you away. Voices of reason are always welcome...

A repost of my "fig leaf offering" from earlier ---

If (heaven forbid) Hillary does win, I hope to be in the state of mind where I can put aside any differences, congratulate her and her supporters, and get on board to fuck up the Repugs in November. Of course, I would hope for the same from you if "my guy" wins...

You may end up on an FBI watch list if you go there. My son and I looked around at one of those sites like Church of the Creator or something. He wanted to register and mess with their heads. I told him not to do that on my computer. Maybe I am paranoid, but I think those people are watched.

Just go to the Southern Poverty Law Center website, and donate some money. That will do much more good.

Most Obama and Edwards supporters are not posting anti-Hillary threads. There are a vocal minority of both camps, just like there is a vocal minority of the Hillary supporters who have nothing better to do but start thread after thread trashing other candidates.

I'll defend my candidate, but I try not to go trolling in positive threads about other candidates and start bashing away. It's a waste of time.

20. Don't go!
I rely on you :)

I do know what you mean. I was a Clinton supporter throughout the '90s, including affection for both. I never turned against either of them. I came into this primary season still liking Hillary Clinton, although in disagreement on some (to me) major points. In recent weeks, after all these years, I am liking her less and less each day. A personal dislike. Is it the negative supporters of either candidate on DU posting unceasing negativity? Is it the way their campaigns are going? I honestly can't say. I just don't know. But I've seen the same transition among Clinton supporters I know online, now deeply against Obama, who hadn't held him in poor esteem before.

Eh, primaries as per usual, I guess.

I despise Hillary for willing to sell her soul for power and I don't trust Obama, who mimics Lieberman's talking points about bi-partisanship and progressives. I'm leaning Edwards, but I'm not enthusiastic about it.

The 2008 Prez election, I'm basically sitting out as an activist. Renovating my house is more appealing to me than supporting any of the Dem Prez candidates.

I wanted Shaq to stay in LA. Not just because he's a great player, he always came across as a nice guy. One time I saw him with this wife sitting at a restaurant in West Hollywood at a sidewalk table and he was very cool and polite when people recognized him. It was a friday night, so most of the guys were too busy checking out each other, so I guess Shaq figured he could sit out side and not cause that much of a ruckus.

29. Well since Obama is 'just like Hillary'
you shouldn't have a worry in the world about an Obama Presidency.

Some of have discovered genuine reasons to dislike the Clintons, regardless of who the other candidates are.

Others really think politics is nothing but a bash fest. That's all they want and they gravitate to whatever candidate throws out the most red meat.

And others really and truly are just trolls.

Ignore is your friend, it really is. I put the worst of all of them on ignore, even a couple of Obama supporters who I decided weren't really supporters at all.

To me, the most important issue in 2008 is the restraint of executive power and restoration of Constitutional authority after Bush's depradations. As far as I can see, Hillary has no credibility on that issue.

I'm sorry, but that is my honest opinion. I'm almost his same age and I'm not swayed by a smooth talker with a lot of hot air and almost zero actual experience under his belt (I don't count being in a state senate as real national experience).

I would have had no problem voting for him in a few years, but I think that right now he doesn't have the know-how to be president. Having said that, if he manages to win the nomination, I will drag myself to the voting booth next November and pull the lever for all the Democrats on the ballot. The Supreme Court is too important to pass it on to the Repugs.

I do not care for his smooth talk and inexperience either. People tell me that Hillary is cold and calculating. I'd take that any day over slick and inexperienced. This country needs experience right now and that is why Biden is my first choice.

Also, I don't like Obama parrotting the right wing talking points on "bi-partisanship" and social security.

62. Slick, that's the word!
He reminds me of a guy I once supervised who was very slick, he thought that he was a smooth operator and that his charm was enough to allow him to get away with anything. He was all talk and no action. He eventually transferred to another dept. and ended up getting fired for poor performance. I didn't trust that guy and I don't trust this one either.

54. My advice: don't get to far ahead of yourself.
The situation is very dynamic. There’s still no reason to believe that any of the top 3 candidates are done, especially Hillary and Obama. So don’t mentally commit to anything too early, because it might not work out. Just do your best for your candidate and see how it plays out. Uncertainty always sucks, and reading DU can make people crazy. If the real world was like DU, it would be an Edwards, Biden race. So my advice is keep doing what you’ve been doing, and wait and see.
