Huckabee Questions Mormons' Belief
Edited on Wed Dec-12-07 11:25 AM by sampsonblk
WASHINGTON (AP) - Republican presidential hopeful Mike Huckabee, an ordained Southern Baptist minister, asks in an upcoming article, "Don't Mormons believe that Jesus and the devil are brothers?"...

A spokeswoman for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints said Huckabee's question is usually raised by those who wish to smear the Mormon faith rather than clarify doctrine...

She could have just given a straight answer: yes.

Huckabee is going to catch holy hell for asking. What will this do to illuminate our party? Nothing. We'll have two GOP guys arguing about what they believe in while our party slings mud at each other. I hope Romney and Huckabee do not suck up all the oxygen in the next few weeks.

I hope that if there's going to be a debate about religion that its kept in its proper place. And I hope our side takes part. It does matter.

6. Actually, I think it is our problem
If the debate within the GOP is about who has the stronger and more sound beliefs, what does that make our party look like? Not good.

10. I don't follow your thinking
Just because two religious wackos duke it out does not mean WE are NOT worthy, not religious, not serious candidates, etc. What are you believing?

Who cares whether Mitt and Huckabee have a debate about which or their religious beliefs are best? They have an audience of koolaid drinkers. They're likely not going to convert anyone to Mormanisim, from Mormanisim, or to the Republican party, either.

Meantime, WE talk about the things people CARE about.

11. I am talking about appearances, not reality
The GOP is having a fight about what they believe in. What are we fighting about? Past drug use and other kindergarten stuff. It doesn't present a good contrast for us.

3. The implication of that's why a registered voter should not poll for Romney
is chilling.

The Iraq debacle, the sinking dollar, the subprime crisis, the prospect for martial law, the growing homeless crisis, immigration are issues put by the wayside while theological debates determine who the leader of the free world is going to be.

4. Yep, religious litmus tests over discussion of the problems killing us.
My, how helpful both those idiots are.

5. The republicans are now going all out with the religion "issue" to win over
their base. Who would have thought that a main campaign issue for republicans in the US is focused on talking about Jesus and devil? Is this Karl Rove at work? Totally wild.

8. I am so glad that the Repugnants...
offer us such great comic relief as we are about to witness(gives a new meaning to the word witness)between two such religious sour-pusses.

Add to that the sight of all Repug candidates dressed in Keystone Kop costumes and weilding and jousting with rubber bats...oh my. Oughta make a movie outa all this.

12. I think it would be very instructive for Bill Moyers to interview Huckabee.
Bill Moyers knows his stuff. My guess is that Huckabee would be exposed as a superficial pseudoChristian hardly deserving of the title "Reverend."
