What happened to the NIE story??
It was a bombshell! The NIE (National Intelligence Estimate)consisted of a consensus intelligence gathering of 16 different intelligence groups within our government. They agreed that Iran did not pose a nuclear threat to America and had not been involved in nuclear advancement since 2003. The President and the White House knew all about it but still tried to get us involved in another war in the Middle East. They caught the President in a bald-faced lie.

Then along comes the story about the CIA destroying a couple of tapes. Is this the greatest diversion of all time? Everyone seems to have forgotten about the NIE story? I am thinking that was the intent all along. Get the heat off George W Bush and put it on the CIA and the Democrats. It has worked beautifully.

1. What NIE story?
it wasn't a couple of tapes. it was hundreds of hours of torture of two men. Repeated. Over days, weeks, months.

2. Hm. I hadn't considered the timing of those two stories.

It is pretty sick if, in order to distract people from your outrageous lies about an intelligence report, you have to release information about having destroyed torture tapes.

But wait! Consider this -- the torture tape story brought out damning information about Democrats in Congress who apparently knew about the torture, but didn't demand that it be stopped -- which removes the heat from the lying, torturing Rethug administration.

I just hope that releasing the torture tapes bites the administration in the ass BIG TIME -- like Jonathon Turley's comments on Countdown the other night indicating that it is ridiculous to think that the President was not involved in ordering the torture and the destruction of incriminating evidence.

I do believe that this is what Al Gore meant when he said that so many people around the nation have outrage exhaustion.

On edit: More about the NIE tape story biting the WH in the ass - CIA won't take the fall for torture tapes... http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=389x2455213

Hell, one would think that KKK Karl was still at the White House, and if truth be known he probably isn't very far away.

5. The disappearance of this (any every other) story about the Bushista criminality
is evidence that the main thing that has to be done is to gain control of the media - that is, return it to a NEWS-gathering and dissemination entity rather than the propaganda tool it currently is.

With the 10-second attention span of the American public, unless the truth is put out in a form (short and easy to understand) and repeatedly aired, we will never be able to put this country back on the democratic tract.

Everything else is secondary.

8. Like everything else, though it is not being done. The individuals who are
responsible (guilty) must be personally held responsible and made to suffer consequences for their actions. As long as the people (and it is people who make the decisions that so negatively impact us) continue to act as they do without consequences, why should they change. "Political" reactions (boycotts, letters, etc.) do nothing because the decision-makers are so insulated from the damage they do.

Until that is done, nothing will be accomplished.

By the time the public, or enough dedicated individuals, are fed up enough to really fight back, the march to fascism will be complete.

10. One thing that I find inspiring is the fact that some media personalities...
are finally coming out; ie: Dan Abrams with his latest slams against the Bush Administration and Joe Scarbourogh... We really need more of these name recognition types to step forward and question the legality of many of the things that this Administration are doing.
This is way long overdue IMO...

7. A GOPer two-fer
These tapes were destroyed years ago, but the story comes out now, and the fallout hits the opposition. Very suspicious. That the intelligence agencies have refused to be used again as they were for Iraq and the administration is lying AGAIN for more war is big news.
