who would attack Shea-Porter?
on her endorsement of Obama

The news sparked a brief skirmish on Blue Hampshire, a blog for New Hampshire Democrats, about whether Shea-Porter had been influenced by campaign contributions from Obama's political action committee. But this speculation was shot down by Kathy Sullivan, a former chairwoman of the state party and co-chair of the Clinton campaign in the state. "Anyone who knows knows that is a boatload of hooey. I know there are only four weeks to go to the election, but that is not an excuse for attacking" her, wrote Sullivan. "You aren't helping Hillary when you attack ...I am co-chair of the Hillary Clinton campaign here in New Hampshire, and no, attacking like this is not acceptable to the campaign or to me... If you want to do tough issues comparison on Obama or other candidates, have at it, but this is baloney."

There was also speculation in New Hampshire Democratic circles that Shea-Porter may have decided to throw in with Obama for broader reasons of self-interest: a belief that she would fare better in her reelection bid next fall with Obama at the top of the ticket. The New Hampshire GOP is gunning to get her seat back next year (with Bradley preparing for a rematch), arguing that the district is out of step with a congresswoman who, among other things, had her Dover, N.H., office serve hot apple cider to antiwar protesters.

1. I fully trust that Shea-Porter had honorable reasons
for her choice. And the Clinton campaign should get credit for standing up for Carol's integrity in New Hampshire.

2. oh fa cryin' out loud
Carol Shea-Porter has every right to endorse the candidate of her choice. This big tempest didn't kick in when CD 2 Congressman Paul Hodes endorsed Obama. Is it the ovarian factor at work here?

Jumpin jeebus on a pogo stick.

CSP was the ultimate grassroots candidate. She had no support from the Democratic Party hierarchy - in fact, they shoveled money at a guy who didn't have a prayer. She's never strayed from her anti-war stance - so for a grassroots Congresswoman, Obama is a far better fit than Hillary Clinton.

I wouldn't dream of speaking for Shea-Porter, but the constant drone that I have to vote for Hillary because I have a uterus really pisses me off.

5. I called my representative to tell her I was disappointed.
It was hardly an "attack", though, and it had squat to do with Hillary.

9. As usual, you display class yourself
The doubts about Shea-Porter were raised by one or more NH bloggers posting on a blog and Shea-Porter was quickly defended by Clinton's own NH State Co-Chair.

How much control does anyone here figure Edwards, Clinton, Obama, Kecinich and the rest have over what each and every blogger supporter who logs on here or anywhere else posts? Had Clinton's campaign remained silent that would have been within their right to do so, but instead Sullivan came to Shea-Porter's strong defense.

Sullivan, and Doyle the other day, were speaking from their hearts. Not just the usual campaign drivel.

Cuts through the usual back-and-forth during the hairy season and needs to be recognized for what it is: Goodness.

11. if campaigns has control
over each and every blogger, that would make me very nervous.

Kathy Sullivan can always be depended upon to do and say the right thing. She rocks.
