Biden’s No-Frills Ad
Biden’s No-Frills Ad
By Ariel Alexovich

Democrat Joe Biden, chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, talks up his extensive political experience in his latest TV spot while acknowledging that the word “experience” is too much of a campaign catchphrase. (And one that’s been bandied about a bit among some high-profile Democratic rivals.)
In the austere ad “Action,” which will be broadcast beginning tomorrow in Iowa, we only see Mr. Biden’s head against a blue-and-black background as he speaks seriously and directly.

He says:
Being president is not the same thing as running for president. When this campaign is over, political slogans like experience and change will mean absolutely nothing. The next president has to act. The Biden plan to end the war in Iraq has already won bipartisan support. When Pakistan erupted in crisis, I spoke to Musharraf before Bush did. You don’t have to guess what I’ll do as president. Just look at what I’ve done.

The camera pans away from the senator’s face just once, to direct voters to go to www.planforiraq.com to learn more about his proposal for bringing troops home.

2. My pleasure.
I've always respected Biden's "frankness." That comes across well in this ad.

3. Very effective ad.
Biden is the underdog to watch now. Can he cross over the 15% threshold in Iowa? He's on the radar now and will be in the top four for sure.
