Another Union endorsement for Hillary...IATSE

The 100,000-member International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees, Moving Picture Technicians, Artists and Allied Crafts (IATSE) endorsed Clinton today.

“Hillary Clinton’s ability to create real change for America’s working families is exactly what this country needs,” IATSE President Thomas C. Short said in a statement released by the Clinton campaign. “She has the strength and experience to provide quality, affordable health care for every American and rebuild our middle class.”

I think this is the union that was threatening to picket one of Oprahbama's events over Oprah's non-union shop...

2. IATSE was threatening to picket the venue, not Oprah.

MANCHESTER - Barack Obama's presidential campaign deeply concerned organized labor by booking its big rally tomorrow with superstar Oprah Winfrey at the non-union Verizon Wireless Arena. But an agreement reached last night ensures no picket line will be set up at the event, saving Obama from an uncomfortable choice and potential embarrassment. A union representing organized stage hands has been trying unsuccessfully to gain a foothold at the arena since it opened, six years ago. State and national labor officials informed the Obama campaign of the issue after the campaign had signed an agreement to hold the event at the arena, according to AFL-CIO state President Mark MacKenzie.

After a week of negotiations, MacKenzie said last night, an agreement was reached that will avert a picket line at the event by members of the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE) Local 195.

5. I guess they didnt notice that
Edwards was the only Democratic candidate to speak in support of the Striking broadway stagehands of Local One. I wonder how the rank and file feel about this endorsement.

6. The IATSE is currently teamed with the studios against the striking Screen Writer's Guild
The leader of the union, Tommy Short is a guy who flaunts his connections to organized crime, and made a minor fame blurb about himself by putting his cigarette out on his own kid's head.

I'm not sure if Clinton should be flaunting support from this guy, especially with his stance towards other Hollywood unions.
