and Obama may not be there in the end, but it won't because Oprah didn't give it all she had.

7. more interest in the elections can't hurt the democratic process...
if Oprah gets more people to get involved I can't see anything harmfull about that.

but then again, some are threatened by a legitimate democratic process.....

9. She Is Ok
Obama is not my first choice - but a close 2nd, and not a big fan of Oprah - but she does nice things and her heart is in the right place

I don't think celebrities - help a whole lot - but cant hurt ether - and anything to turn out the Dem Vote is even better - the more the better for all of us (here) and maybe gets new voter's attention (IE The Women who watch her show/etc..) may get them aware more and off the couch? and see what the rest of US see,(crimes, by criminals) the more the better - So go Oprah! and all you other Famous / Rich people and not so Famous or rich wannabees

Vote

10. I don't admire Oprah.....
...she turned her back on supporting women all these years (you go, girlfriend) and reverted to supporting someone based on race.

And now this election will openly and aggressively be one about race when it coulda shoulda been about sex.

No. She's black. He's black. What else do you need?

And besides, today down in SC, she was talking and sounding just like Jesse Jackson.

My answers offend you? Isn't that why you were baiting?

For your information, if Hillary doesn't make it, I will be thrilled watching this country elect the first black person as President. And you will find that sentiment in my journal.

But for God's sake, don't deny that blacks and women will not be voting for their kind. It's human nature and I fully understand it and I heartily support it.

21. Yes, something is wrong. With you.
And your racist rhetoric.

"But for God's sake, don't deny that blacks and women will not be voting for their kind."

Actually, many women are making a point of NOT supporting Hillary.

Here I thought most DUers were too enlightened to vote for people based on race.

I see we have a few stragglers.

19. So what you're saying is you have NO proof.
I'm white.

John Kerry was white.

I guess I must've supported John Kerry ONLY because he's white.

Your comments are borderline racist and do not bode well for your future here.

Are you saying that no one is thinking what I am saying out loud?

Women will not be supporting Hillary because she is a woman?

African-Americans will not be supporting Obama because he is black?

What is racist about those remarks?

17. I find that post to be very concerning.
This election should not be about race or sex. It should be about the best person to lead the country. Anyone who decides a candidate based on sex or race is diminishing the accomplishments of the individual aside from their sex or race. How condescending a view is voting for someone just because of their race or sex????

I also find it highly insulting that you would automatically make the assumption that Oprah is supporting Obama "because she is black." SHAME ON YOU.

23. Oprah has been around for a long time....
....and she has had many opportunities to support a political cause. She has supported women and women's rights all that time.

So a woman becomes a most viable candidate for the first time in American history and she turns her back on a sister, someone who would normally be a "girl-friend" and decides to support a member of her race - the first viable black candidate in American history.

She had a tough decision to make, and she made it knowing that the decision would please some and piss off others.

That this election will be about sex and race on the Democratic side until the primaries are over is a fact whether you or others will admit it or not.

After the primaries, it will still be either about sex or race.

28. I think you are making a lot of assumptions
And for some reason you are wanting this to be about sex. Again I find it very disconcerting that you feel one should vote for someone because of their sex or race. That is not a qualification to lead the country.

33. Uh, read what I say......
"I find it very disconcerting that you feel one should vote for someone because of their sex or race. That is not a qualification to lead the country."

Try reading again. I say that it happens that people WILL vote based on race and sex. Not all people, but many people. Maybe most people - one way or the other - race or sex or bpth.

Do I approve? Sure. Why not. Is that what I want them to do? No! Of course not! Candidates should be elected based on their qualifications for the office.

Is that what happens? Nope!

12. If you're so much against corporate influence on campaigns, why is it okay for Oprah to do this?
She's a billionaire. Don't you think she has as much or more of an influence, or ability to tip things with funding, than the people or groups who support other candidates?

It's cuddly when she does it, but it's a sin for other people. Go figure.

Most corporations try to use their influence to further their profit margin and could care less about the country.

I disagree. I think Obama would've had a better shot without her trying to get into everyone's face all the time.

Not too long from now, Obama will rue the day he ever decided to let Oprah run his life for him. Wait and see :smoke:

26. Dunno, but...
I live in Illinois. And heartily approve Obama's record in the state Senate.

At the moment, however, he's close to my LAST choice in the primary.

McClurkin. Voting to fund the war in Iraq. Avoiding Kyl-Lieberman, the MoveOn issue and other votes that would entail a definite stand on controversial issues.

Endorsing Todd Stroger (a big deal if you live in Cook County, IL)

Michelle Obama, implying that no self-respecting African-American could vote for anyone else.

And now Oprah, packing stadiums, running his campaign like a Billy Graham crusade -- will you make a decision, my friends -- will you make it TODAY?

Makes me feel like a damn fool for studying voting records and position papers. That's not what will sweep Obama past Clinton -- no, it will be warm fuzzy feelings and the color of his skin. The excitement of engaging in a mass movement, gilded with rhetoric, tinged with hysteria.

Oprah may choose our books but I'll be damned if she chooses our next president. Not with MY consent or cooperation. That's a bridge too far. Much as I hated the Naderites in 2000, at this juncture I understand their motives. And may join them. Third party or write-in.

My two top choices -- Edwards and Obama -- are losing me. Actions do speak louder than words. More and more I am backed into a corner -- and it just happens to be the one occupied by Dennis Kucinich.

Oh, well.
