Shea-Porter to back Obama

U.S. Rep. Carol Shea-Porter has decided to endorse Barack Obama for President, UnionLeader.com has learned.

The freshman 1st District congresswoman had been considering staying neutral in the primary, but has now decided to get involved.

Obama, who has been gaining on Hillary Clinton in recent New Hampshire polls, won the endorsement of the state's other member of Congress, 2nd District Rep. Paul Hodes, in July.

Shea-Porter defeated former U.S. Rep. Jeb Bradley in the November 2006 general election after upsetting Democratic former state Rep. James Craig in the September party primary.

1. K&R
I briefly ran in the NH-01 primary against Carol Shea Porter in 2006. I came to know her as both an opponent and a friend. Carol is one of those rare politicians who is in it for all the right reasons. I'm glad to see her suporting Obama.

5. It's good to see another Clarkista for Obama join the effort.
She's a good person and her team are full of dedicated grassroots volunteers which will be a big help to Obama. Thanks for the good news.

10. Yes, she is.... and I suspect she'll go very far (Gov. Shea-Porter some day, I'd bet)

I did send her a few emails about Obama this summer and fall and told her how proud I was to have supported her campaign in 2006.
Told her what she already knew (she was very enthusiastic about Barack in her replies) so I was hoping that meant she was leaning
his way... well, she didn't disappoint.

:toast:

7. Now if only she could manage to answer an email.
Its frustrating. Maybe I'm just bitter as my heart was set on Sullivan. Ah well. Glad to hear it nonetheless.

8. Wow, Shea-Porter is pretty gutsy, going against the DLC machine like that.
Good for her!

Obama had a great weekend.
