Poll question: If Huckabee is nominated,
though we would certainly lose the Jesus-rode-a-dinosaur voters like we always do, I think it would be a good opportunity for the Democratic candidate to pick up many Republican and independent voters who are interested in international experience, fiscal reponsibility and effective government that doesn't crank Jesus down our throats.

Which Democratic candidate would do the best job of attracting these voters?
(If you think my assessment is nutz, feel free to say so).

1. I think it is a mistake to underestimate Huckabee
He is a nut, but he has a charming personality AND these are rough times in which people might be more susceptible to religious talk (remember most Americans are affiliated with Christianity in some way). Huckabee getting the nom will not be a good thing for us.

2. If the republicans are smart
they will elect Huck as their nominee.....if they can "own him" and if their ego's will permit this.

5. He's a nut with no money....
...a winning combination for the Rapturelosers, a losing combination if you want to be President.

11. He has some minuses
his ethics are under scrutiny, as is his handling of the pardon of that rapist. That action cost him at least one vote I know of--a self-proclaimed independent said on another board that she wouldn't vote for him because of it, and is now looking at Dodd and Richardson.

10. Not a bash, but I think HRC would be seen as the most-R-like among them
If they truly can think on their own (i.e., not the ditto-heads), they can review positions on on trade, interventions, foreign relations, gamesmanship, etc., and feel more comfortable with her than the others.

12. I don't think this has anything to do with "being Republican."
What do Republicans know about fiscal responsibility, intelligent foriegn policy and effective government that doesn't have shove Jesus down our throats? Nothing.

13. If the Huckster is nominated
I think we have a good shot at winning the "women who don't want to graciously submit to their husbands" voting block too. Good thing any Dem candidate can do that.

14. Let the mush heads in the middle be without a candidate for once.
instead of pandering to them, make them wake up and realize how they (as well as you brainwashed DLC'ers) have been consistently voting against their own interests since Jellybean Brain occupied the White House.

Nominate Dennis Kucinich, and wake America up to the reality that Liberal values ARE America's values.

Can anybody, with the possible exception of the "dinosaur riders", read Dennis' website....

http://www.dennis4president.com/go/issues/

....and tell me that these are NOT values held by most Americans.

15. First of all, appealing to most voters doesn't involve pandering imo
For the most part, all a candidate needs to is be clear on the issues, be understood by a maximum amount of voters, and make sure the other side doesn't paint him/ her as something he is not. Dukakis and Mondale were royally creamed in part because they were not good at this. They were right on most of the issues, but being right on most of the issues doesn't always win nominations and elections.

Second, are you calling me a "brainwashed DLCer?"
