Cedar Rapids, Ia. -- Saturday night was more than a birthday party and campaign fundraiser for freshman U.S. Rep. Dave Loebsack.
Roughly 250 people turned out for the party at a Teamsters' hall in Cedar Rapids. And more people than not wore a sticker for one of the six Democratic presidential candidates.
The tables quickly filled with people waiting to hear speeches, not only from Loeb-sack but also from presidential candidates Joe Biden and John Edwards.
It was a night for people such as Betty and Nyle Cummings of Cedar Rapids, who said they didn't know which candidate they would caucus for. It was also a night for people such as Judy McConaughy of Cedar Rapids, who knew which candidate she would caucus for and who wished to persuade a few others to do so as well.
"You can hear it, just listening to people," said McConaughy, 63. "Even if they're for other candidates, they sit and talk to other people (about their favorite candidates). But I've heard enough to be for Edwards."
Loebsack said that he would not be endorsing a candidate Saturday and that he didn't know if he would at all. He called all of the candidates "tremendous," saying that putting any of them into office would carry the momentum that swept Democrats such as him into Congress in 2006.
"People told us they wanted a change in direction," he said.

Edwards asked residents in the room that when they go to caucus, that they back the person they can trust.
"We have to have a president that you can depend on," he said. "We have to have a president who will tell you the truth."
