Poll question: Taking a sounding on the Republicans in near-mid-December.
There are 8 Republicans still in the nomination race.

Which do you think will be the eventual nominee in Minneapolis?

1. I have said Rev. Mike from day 1 - he's the only one that sounds sane
While uttering the bile the right eats up. That plus his evangelical bona fides make him odds on to me.

6. Does Mittens own money count?
Or is it the most money from other rich bastards?

5. One of the odd twists to the Pukes' race this time is how close Brownback
came to outflanking Huckabee in the Iowa straw poll -- essentially a meaningless poll -- and in not beating Huckabee, Brownback bailed.

It took the pressure of Huckabee's campaign and suddenly he was the no. 1 protestant vying for first place.

Point being, I thought Brownback would defeat Huck early on. Clearly, that was dead wrong. You called it right, and you called it early.

4. Willard is hoping all his wads of money win the White House.
I think that's a huge factor for him.

We'll see how he does in Iowa against the hard-charging Huckabee.

Hiya right back, good person. :hi:

9. Hi, ingac70. It could be ol' Mike. I sure don't like him much, but your
point is well taken. I've always been aware of the nutbag demographic in Iowa -- probably ever since the Pat Robertson race quite a while ago.

So I know they're out there.

The GOP's recent successes at the ballot have come largely from the margin these fundie nutbags provide them, but the bad news is that they've created a monster. There isn't any way to shun the fundies without murdering their electoral base.

Poor, poor Republicans!

14. They know....
this unholy alliance (corporate whores teaming up with fundies) will come back to bite them in the ass! That is why right wing radio and bloggers are pissing themselves right now.

15. Yes. And it's a self-inflicted wound, hopefully fatal. The GOP is a party
in dire need of realignment.

But that would take a bold gesture of telling the fundies to cram it, and I sure don't see many of their current 8 candidates with the temerity like that.

23. Yes, and what a sweet thing that would be. In its present form, it has
abandoned -- long ago -- the spirit of Lincoln and the notion that government of, by, and for ALL the people (and not just God's chosen few) should not perish from the earth, etc.

What a selfish bunch the fundies are, and what damage they're doing to their party.

I hope we can capitalize on the chaos.

10. the Huckster
is who I think has the best chance, because of the sheer number of fundies itching to put a fellow anti-gay, anti-evolution wacko in the White House.

evolution wacko.

And the American democracy that Lincoln references in his Address at Gettysburg is interpreted by these kinds of voters to mean "Let's vote for somebody like Mike Huckbee."

Which is scary.

I'd somehow like to see Huckabee rise to the point where he creates chaos in the other GOP campaigns but not far enough to actually win their nomination.

17. Hi, Old Crusoe. The Gettysburg
Address does have a biblical ring to it so I can see how fundies might consider Lincoln's words a green light to inserting religion into the workings of our government. Fundies seem to interpret everything to suit their own agenda.

I think unrest is already beginning in the republican camp with regards to Huckabee's possible nomination. I hope it continues, and that it reaches the point of chaos, resulting in widespread division among republican voters. I also hope that Huckabee barely loses the nomination, and that his supporters are die-hard enough to boycott the general election and not vote for the nominee.

and is entirely possible, since right wing radio is doing their level best to talk the masses out of Huckabee these last few days. I've heard it for myself. He is a talking point.
