Oprah v. Hillary
It was not merely that Oprah was for Obama. Could she be against Hillary? Amid her serenade of praises of all things Obama this
afternoon in Des Moines, Iowa, could Oprah have taken what could be interpreted as shots at Hillary?

“You know I've never done this before, and it feels like I'm out of my pew,” Winfrey said. “I'm out of my terrain. Backstage, somebody
said, ‘Are you nervous?’ I go, ‘You're damn right I'm nervous! Yes...I am, cause I've never done this before. But if we continue to do
the same things over and over and over again I know that you get: the same results.”

She gave insight into the apolitical nature of her show. “I'm tired of politics as usual,” she said. “That's why you seldom see politicians
on my show, ’cause I only have an hour, and what I've learned is it's really hard in an hour to penetrate what I call that political veil,
that veil of political rhetoric.” She later added, “We, the people, can see through all that rhetoric. We recognize that the amount of
time you spent in Washington means nothing unless you are accountable for the judgments you made with the time you had.”

She referenced the bedrock of Obama’s campaign, his opposition to the war authorization vote in 2002. “And long before it was
popular,” Winfrey said, “he stood with clarity and conviction against this war in Iraq!"

1. Well, if Obama is to win the Primary, it would be nice to see him win on his own merits, not Oprah's

6. It's been anything but. I think you're mistaking Iowa for the Primaries
One state does not a Primary make.

17. He won her support on his own merits.
And he got as close as he is now with her playing a minor role before today.

20. if he didn't have merits, Oprah wouldn't be involved
It would be nice to see Hillary run on her own merits, not her husband's.

2. Pol,ticians on her show?
She was awfully comfortable schmoozing with Bush and Schwazenegger when she gave them free TV time to tout their campaigns.

9. Actually, most pundits gave credit to Maria Shriver's "stand by her man" efforts
I followed that campaign closely and Shriver's tireless advocacy of her husband in light of his philandering (plus Grey Davis' screwups as Gov.)
swung women to Arnold's side. Unless you have poll data to prove your claim, that is.

10. No poll data necessary to prove your claim, of course

In your opinion. Oprah gave him an hour on her show before he'd sewn up the nomination, and as his personal friend (he attended her 50th birthday bash) it was just an hour long gushing commercial for him, in front of the female demographic he was desperate for. Oprah gushing stuff like "All I know is a man that's as great of a father as Arnold, would have to make a great governor too" is what made him seem safe for Oprah's female demographic.

11. Also,
Oprah and Maria have been friends since their days in Baltimore when they both worked at WJZ television.

12. Yeah, forgot about that, Maria is in Oprah's inner circle of girlfriends
There's about 8 women who Oprah considers her absolute best friends, and I remember hearing Oprah gave them all a similar looking ring to wear or whatever the story is. Maria has that ring.

attacks by our DU'rs for the time before the recall, a victim of 5th column Dems. It wasn't Pukes that put Arnold in. Oprah can eat mcshit and die for her role in that affair

16. Well, she did said that she has previously voted for Republicans.
I guess she's only a sporadic Democrat, whatever........

It's sad that in this celebrity obsessed country of ours someone can decide who to vote for just because Oprah brings her circus to town.

Edited on Sun Dec-09-07 12:54 PM by ClarkUSA
Which makes him Dubya's brother, I guess.

And I can't wait to see what Hillaryworlders say if Barbra Streisand decides to give a free concert. :eyes:

5. “I'm tired of politics as usual..."
No shit. Enough of that.

OBAMA:

"We are in a defining moment in our history. Our nation is at war. The planet is in peril. The dream that so many generations fought for feels as if it's slowly slipping away. And that is why the same old Washington textbook campaigns just won't do. That's why telling the American people what we think they want to hear instead of telling the American people what they need to hear just won't do. America, our moment is now. I don't want to spend the next year, or the next four years, refighting the same fights we had in the 1990s. I don't want to pit red America against blue America. I want to be president of the UNITED States of America."

8. Oprah vs Hillary. Thats a fight I would pay to see!
Frankly I think Oprah would win. Hillary would be the first to drop the boxing gloves, but that would just make Oprah mad.

In a knockdown drag out fight, Oprah is a true scrapper. She would clean Hillary's clock. My guess, the fight would only go about three rounds before a knockout.
