"Attack" is when candidate A says something truthful about

Candidate B or Candidate B's proposals that Candidate A disagrees with.

"Mudslinging" is when Candidate A says something either untruthful about Candidate B or Candidate B's proposals or brings up something in Candidate B's personal life that is neither here nor there.

For example, when Gore criticizes Bush's Iraq policy, that is an attack.

When Bush spread rumors that McCain had fathered an illegitimate child, that was mudslinging.



When Candidate A makes a legitimate attack on Candidate B's policy and Candidate B accuses A of mudslinging, isn't Candidate B the one slinging mud?
