A light hearted post: Choose a song for your candidate's campaign
I think campaign songs usually suck. I don't have a candidate so it's hard to pick a song- but I don't think you could go wrong with something by Van Morrison. What artist and song should be the campaign tune for your candidate?

11. That song is sneering at the revolutionary, actually.
It's sung to a militant revolutionary, and John is telling him, dude, calm the fuck down. Take another look at the lyrics.

Sorry if I'm being a bit of a jerk, but that's one of the songs that's frequently misinterpreted. Someone hoping for real societal change using "Revolution" as an anthem is like Reagan trying to use "Born in the USA" is an anthem.

2. Maybe it's just coz I love the song-
Fortunate Son - Creedence Clearwater Revival

Funny thing is, I'm not really a fan or the "classic rock" thing at all.

But again, I love this song, and I think it fits.

4. It's a great song but the words
don't lend themselves too well I don't think.

5. I think they do-
Some folks are born silver spoon in hand,
Lord, dont they help themselves
But when the tax man comes to the door,
Lord the house looks like a rummage sale

13. The lyrics are mocking the wealthy who skipped Vietnam and dodged taxes.
They fit George W. Bush perfectly; literally every line can describe him. However, as a campaign song? That might send the opposite message you were hoping for--implying that your guy is the fortunate son.

6. American Idiot - Green Day
I just heard the words to Green Day's "American Idiot" yesterday for the first time - my daughter put it on a mix CD. A very brave Dem, or an idiot Repub could use this (the same ones who believe Colbert is one of "them").

I know, not really appropriate for use, but I thought I'd share anyway. It's a great song.

AMERICAN IDIOT - Green Day

Don't wanna be an American idiot.
Don't want a nation controlled by the media.
And can you hear the sound of hysteria?
The subliminal mind-fuck America.

Welcome to a new kind of tension.
All across the idiot nation.
Where everything isn't meant to be okay.
Television dreams of tomorrow.
We're not the ones who're meant to follow.
For thats enough to argue.

Well maybe I'm the faggot America.
I'm not a part of a redneck agenda.
Now everybody adhere to propaganda.
And sing along to the age of paranoia.

Welcome to a new kind of tension.
All across the idiot nation.
Where everything isn't meant to be okay.
Television dreams of tomorrow.
We're not the ones who're meant to follow.
For thats enough to argue.

Don't wanna be an American idiot.
One nation controlled by the media.
Information Age of hysteria.
It's going out to Idiot America.

Welcome to a new kind of tension.
All across the idiot nation.
Where everything isn't meant to be okay.
Television dreams of tomorrow.
We're not the ones who're meant to follow.
For thats enough to argue.

And I'd be fine with either Revolution or Give Peace a Chance. But I was thinking "Imagine".

You may say Dennis is a dreamer, but he's not the only one......

14. I'd Love to see, "Last to Die" by Bruce Springsteen
I dont think it would necessarily work, but it would be a great message for any campaign to use (though they would probably have to get a Kerry endorsement to use it).
