Democrats have nothing to fear from Huckabee...
Edited on Tue Dec-04-07 05:12 PM by SaveElmer
The only reason...and I mean the only reason...he is catching on with Republicans is because the bar has been set so low by the other goons they have running...makes Huckabee looks better by comparison...

Whoever the Democrat is will open him up like a hog on butchering day...his views are way out of the mainstream and he has some major skeletons in his closet...

He wasn't overwhelmingly popular in Arkansas, leaving office with a modest 55% approval. Hillary outpolls him significantly there the last I saw...

Phyliis Schlafly has vowed to torpedo him as much as possible...he is not the juggernaut everyone fears...

13. McCain isn't even in the race
And there is no prospect that he will become a factor in the race at any point. The right-wingers hate the guy.

16. I agree McCain is their strongest candidate, but...
whoever they nominate, they'll rally around. They love being in power more than they love their beliefs. They pick money over God any day of the week. I suspect even the calls for splits if Giuliani gets it are bluffs too.

7. Those who underestimate huckabee do so at all of America's peril.
He has me seriously worried.

"Nice" and "aw shucks" hold a lot of sway with voters who resolutely refuse to pay close attention. Enough of them fell for it not once but TWICE to bring bush close enough to steal TWO presidential elections. And evidently they haven't wised up yet. Maybe they wanna go have a beer with him or something...

22. Agreed.
Watch out for Huckabee. He has charisma & comes off as genuine, not fake like "Ken Doll" Romney or sleazy, repulsive Giuliani. That goes a long way with a lot of people. And the fact that some "mystery" group is trashing him makes me believe that the GOP establishment is really scared of this guy.

9. I Just Think His Views On Religion Won't Sink Him..
If you attack evolution you have to attack the virgin birth, the resurrection, , the concept of heaven, et cetera because they all defy rational explanation...

I think a lot of folks don't believe those things intellectually but have faith that they happened...

10. Huckabee:
Right wing social issues, populist economic policies, very likeab;le and good in debates. He is scary in rural areas, and I think he would be a formidable opponent.

Weakness: Foreign Policy.

11. I wouldn't discount Huckabee that quickly. He has the background
to please the fundies (Baptist preacher, no question about his anti-choice stance) and knows how to say all the right things. If the media gets behind him he could be a force to contend with.

14. Huckabee is running for VP.
Huckabee does not meet the bar with other parts of Republican Party.
Conservatives consider him too liberal on economic and taxes.
Money matters to GOP.

Guilliani or Romney are the two we have to be concerned about.

For those who think Guilliani cannot win because of RR.
If you have followed Guilliani, Guilliani has never been running
for RR votes. He is going after Reg Republicans, Democrats
and Independents. He and Hilary will be competing for the same
votes in NJ NY NJ OH etc. There are some Christian Conservatives
who will vote for Rudy.

If Romney knocks Mitt afoul then Rudy comes up and he is off to
the races-- and possibly Huckabee becomes his VP. This way they
have a Pro Lifer at top of ticket.(2ond place)

17. If what you say about Rudy is true, then he's already lost
If he isn't focusing on the fundies, he has no chance.

There aren't enough Republicans to pull off this election without all hands on deck. If even a portion of the fundies are opposed to the nominee, the nominee will lose. The fundies vote in big numbers without fail, and they bring car loads of their friends. Without that, we'll have a Dem in the White House.

he'll take Huck as VP. Then we're in big trouble.

Within two weeks the folksy guitar playing preacher pol will be perceived as a murderer pardoning, tax hiking, illegal immigrant coddling crypto-socialist.
