Grassroot movement plans to drop "money bomb" on Dennis Kucinich campaign.
Edited on Mon Dec-03-07 10:04 PM by DurShar
Source: Put Peace in the White House in 2008

Democratic Presidential Candidate and Ohio Congressman Dennis Kucinich's campaign may be in for a big financial boost if a current grassroots "money bomb" meets just a fraction of its goal. A unknown supporter launched a online campaign to get as many people to pledge to giving to the Kucinich campaign on a certain date, December 15 in this case. The normally marginalized candidate could get some play time if the grassroots fund raiser has a great success.

If you have plans of donating to the campaign anytime soon check out the December 15 "money bomb" and pledge your donation to this campaign.

14. No, it was not a rumor.
Jesus, we can debate whether it is a bad idea or not, but lets please not debate whether it happened.

1. Kucinich tells the audience he is thinking about having Ron Paul as his VP.
Here is the audio...
http://blog.cleveland.com/openers/2007/11/exclusive_audio_kucinich_consi.html
Here is the relevent dialogue from that audio:
Q: Governor Richardson has said that if he becomes the candidate, we will start announcing... setting up what his cabinet would be, probably including what his running mate would be. Would you be prepared to discuss that sort of thing?
DK: I'll tell you who I am thinking about.
Q: Ok.
DK: I'm thinking about Ron Paul. (A bunch of hooey about eagles needing two wings to fly, not worth transcribing.) Think about how it could unite the country. You know, having a Democrat and a Republican on the ticket.

2. Ron Paul's camp passes on the idea.
3. Kucinich takes it off the table.

Here is the audio from a radio interview:
http://www.noisemp3.com/file_upload/uploaded_files/20071129230535_timoliveira_kuchvpaul.mp3

Here is the relevant quote:
"Well, the fact of the matter is Ron is not interested, he is running as a Republican, it's not going to happen." - Dennis Kucinich

I heard him say it on a video! Is there a link to him saying he wouldn't choose Ron Paul? I heard Ron Paul say he wouldn't acccept because of their different ideas on social issues, but I have not heard Kucinich say no on Ron Paul. Believe me I have been wanting to see that. I pledged 100.00 for this money bomb, but when I heard he would even consider putting Ron Paul in line for President, he lost me. I have supported him for a long time. I am hoping for an Edwards/Kucinich , or an Edwards/Obama.

39. He felt it wasn't adequate.
It was a vote based on principles with which I agree. I don't know enough about the politics of the situation to say if his strategy was bad. Dennes tends to not go along with a lot of the half-assed bullshit that makes its way through our Congress. I guess he agrees with many of us that much of it is intended to allow our critters to claim victories on issues they really haven't addressed for shit. Tack a few measly cents onto the minimum wage and claim a victory for working people - that kind of bullshit.

42. Twist it however you like
At least he votes his conscience instead of stooging for his paymasters.

Sometimes he changes his mind about things - just like every other normal human. Sometimes the strategic circumstances in Congress change. But no one should doubt for one second that Kucinich has a genuine moral commitment to health care for children. Many do doubt that about your candidate however.

The fact that you would try and twist his actions to reflect something different is typical of the type of politics your candidate has made a career of.

45. And what about the Flag Burning amendment he voted to pass?
The ACLU rates his voting record on Civil Rights at 64%. That's not very good. It should be MUCH higher, but anyone who admires Ron Paul probably wouldn't have a high Civil Rights voting record.:( He was also ANTI-CHOICE before he started running for President. If Rudolph and Willard can't change their minds on the abortion issue and have it be acceptable here, why is it OK for Kooch to change his mind on that VERY IMPORTANT issue?

Voting Record
# Voted against the misnamed "Patriot Act". (Jun 2003)
# Voted NO on Constitutionally defining marriage as one-man-one-woman. (Jul 2006)
# Voted NO on making the PATRIOT Act permanent. (Dec 2005)
# Voted NO on Constitutional Amendment banning same-sex marriage. (Sep 2004)
# Voted NO on protecting the Pledge of Allegiance. (Sep 2004)
# Voted YES on constitutional amendment prohibiting flag desecration. (Jun 2003)
# Voted NO on banning gay adoptions in DC. (Jul 1999)
# Voted NO on ending preferential treatment by race in college admissions. (May 1998)
# Constitutional Amendment for equal rights by gender. (Mar 2001)
# Rated 64% by the ACLU, indicating a mixed civil rights voting record. (Dec 2002)

52. Kucinich is the worst panderer of either party.
95% of what he says is just blowing smoke up his supporters' asses. What he says is almost always unfeasible, politically impossible, and oversimplified, and he's smart enough to know that. But his niche eats it up, so he keeps on keepin' on. They don't like restrictions on abortion? Okay, we won't talk about that any more. They want impeachment? Sure, here's a few bills for ya, keep the donations comin'. Hey, the internet loves Ron Paul? Yeah, I love Ron Paul too! Hey, wait, my guys got angry about that? Oh, sorry, didn't mean it like that.

People tend to think all politicians are corrupt panderers--except for the ones who tell them what they want to hear. DK is no exception. He just has a different audience than Obama and Clinton do.

84. Kooch is a smarter politician than that
The SCHIP bill was assured of passage, so he was able to vote 'no' and get the issue of SCHIP'S racist exclusion of legal immigrant children into the public debate. No harm done to the bill, and it ensures that those kids will be considered later on.

When the override vote came up, and it was time to take a united stand against the Bushistas, he did so: the outcome of that vote was not certain, so DK voted in favor of the bill.

Learning about parliamentary procedures and strategy isn't as easy as spewing snark, but is ultimately more rewarding.

76. as you must know
the SCHIP bill did not cover the children of LEGAL immigrants. He doesn't happen to believe that any child (or adult, for that matter) should go without health care.

That's why he voted against it.

What a jerk - voting not to exclude children - for the sake of feel good expediency.

78. Perhaps you didn't realize, Freddie
That Dennis voted for the original House bill. The compromise bill between the Senate and the House ditched legal immigrant kids and threw them the to the curb. This was what Dennis voted against, and it wasn't the vote that was important as W promised to veto it. The vote that was important, which was the override attempt, was supported by Dennis.

Now, who's to blame? Dennis, who voted for the bill when it counted, or the Leadership who ditched the legal immigrant kids in an attempt to get a veto-proof majority and failed to do that?

31. What does he have that isn't appealing?
Call me crazy but his stance on almost every single issue should be appealing to the majority of blue collar America.

Who wouldn't want....

1) Single payer not for profit health care for all.

2) A president who was right on the Iraq debacle from the beginning.

3) Quality free education Pre-K thru College for all who wanted it.

4) Keeping American jobs in America by canceling NAFTA and WTO.

5) Getting our civil liberties back by canceling the Patriot Act.

6) Someone that has the courage to hold elected officials to the constitution and moving forward with impeachment when needed.

7) A end to Americas forgotten war. The War on Drugs. Rehabilitation over Incarceration.

That is just a short list of appealing issues Congressman Kucinich brings to the table. What is so unappealing is the fact that MSM caters to the top 10% of wealth in this country and that is also the only class of people that find Congressman Kucinich's ideas unappealing.

Kucinich would be a working mans president and his administration would make America great again.

Pelosi and Hoyer and Reid and the DNC leadership have a responsibility to not allow the rest of America to tar all Democrats as party of the emotionally disturbed and mentally ill.

This is precisely what's happening. And you can't do anything about it.

If Dennis is eliminated, who will tell America that:

*Single Payer Universal HealthCare is not only possible, but cheaper.

*that "For Profit" HealthCare is obscene

*that Mandatory Health Insurance is NOT REALLY Universal HealthCare

*that the Democratic Party and American taxpayers should NOT be forced to subsidize some of the richest CEOs in history by subsidizing the HealthCare Insurance Corps and HMOs.

*that the USA SHOULD give the Imperial Palace (Green Zone) back to the Iraqis, close the permanent bases, expel all Corporate Consultants, withdraw ALL US Troops, and begin paying reparations NOW.

*that redeploying some troops at some future date is a PRO-WAR position.

*that the "Oil Law Benchmark" supported by the Democratic Party is a War Crime

*That we can have election accountability with "Paper Ballots publicly hand counted at the precinct".

*that we CAN cut $Billions$ from the Defense Budget

*that the RICHEST Corporations in history do NOT need $Billions$ in welfare subsidies

*that NAFTA (Free Trade) has not been a good thing for Americans who have to work for a living

“Unlike other candidates, I am not funded by those corporate interests. I owe them no loyalty, and they have no influence over me or my policies.”---Dennis Kucinich

The Democratic Party is a BIG TENT, but there is NO ROOM for those
who advance the agenda of THE RICH (Corporate Owners) at the EXPENSE of LABOR and the POOR.

One thing to remember is: Kooch has a small staff, so any money donated will have more impact than an equivalent amount given to one of the "front runners".

Also, it sends the message to Kooch and the more right-leaning candidates if we show support for the most Progressive candidate in the field. They may not listen to our words, but our money ALWAYS attracts their notice.

38. Doesn't Anyone Here...
...understand that, even if Kucinich got the nomination, how badly he would be beaten in the south and west and the incredible damage it would do to electability of future candidates in those states? Those states also just happen to be the fastest growing in the nation, primarily feeding off economically disaffected residents of the Rust Belt.

Most southerners already think liberals are nuts. Nominate Kucinich and they'll sit back and say, there they go again... I lived in Dallas for years. I know.

I want the the Democratic party of Harry Truman and John Kennedy.

I want the Democratic party that carried Texas in 1960. This isn't it.

You guys are nuts! You're all mental, I swear.

43. This is my conscience speaking.
You're most likely correct, given the sentiment of "normal" people in this country. For now, Kucinich is my conscience vote. However, as the nomination process progresses, I WILL take into account the other aspects of the election process.

We're not nuts. We just want a better country. And this is the guy who has the best record, and values.

79. yeah, go Edwards!.... straight to the international criminal court
How soon we forget. How can you support someone who holds some responsibility for this war? How can we trumpet the mass media now admitting that this war was illegal from the start, but forgive our politicians for getting us into it? If Edwards was the man so many of us would like him to be, he wouldn't have to be re-writing history now, re: his voting record. Any pre-emptive war is illegal. He knows it. He voted for it, and I think he should be held responsible.

I didn't support Kucinich in 2004. I voted for Dean, because he held positions that none of the candidates running this time do. I think the best this time out is Kucinich, but I don't see how anyone could vote for someone who's responsible for this war. That leaves Obama, Richardson and Gravel. These are the only candidates we should give the time of day. And why? Because they're not criminals. That's the kind of shit state politics is in right now in this country. For shame.

I'm not being rhetorical here. How could you? How could you vote for, let alone support, someone with so much blood on their hands?

47. sorry to make this my first post, but...
... WTF?!?!?! Did you have no parent or other such figure to teach you the difference between right and wrong? I want a the Democratic party chosen by the people (including myself). What the hell is wrong with us when we stop discussing politics and start discussing the politics of politics? I don't really give a damn if making the right choice pisses off people who would have rather I made the wrong choice. If people had used this logic in the past, we'd still have slavery. "Oh, geez, I could help these escaped slaves go north, but that would really anger the slave-owners. I better just turn them in, in hopes that the slave-owners will just come around to my position in due time". I'm now going to have a valve installed on the side of my head to release all of this steam.

...then I guess the party will continue making the same mistakes it has made on a fairly regular basis since the end of World War II. This is how we got Roberts and Alito. This is how we got No Child Left Behind. This is how we got Supply Side.

Most importantly, it's how we got all this debt!

We will get another 'Pub next year, if the party extremists are allowed to control the agenda.

68. I beg to disagree
We got those things by (not counting stolen elections, etc.) the party not running strong candidates against strong (for them) republican candidates, or by looking for a middle way, which caused people to think there was no difference between the two largest parties. This also got us loads of Democratic members of congress who were "democrats" simply because they weren't foaming-at-the-mouth-radical conservatives - these are the Democrats who voted for these justices and laws. If Texas is going to be a republican state, the way to win it is not to turn into republicans, but to turn the voters on to a STRONG democratic message. While civil rights legislation may have turned white (read: racist) southerners to the Republican party, it also turned many black voters into life-long democrats. Bush has turned me into a life-long anti-republican. So, we run someone like Kucinich who loses the south.... who cares? Well, all of the poor white folks in the south who vote against their own interests may care come the next election when they see how much better their lives are under a liberal Democratic leader, someone who loves all Americans and puts for initiatives to help all of us. It's not about "voting my conscience" over practicality. It's about taking part in a democracy. If we throw away our opportunity to have a participatory form of government in an attempt to do what we (oh, I know, we all think we know what's best for everyone) think is best for joe-schmoe, 1,000 miles away, we don't deserve to have that opportunity. This vote that I have is MY vote. It's about getting someone who represents my interests. Is that such a wild ideal?

61. If Dennis rises in the polls and in the primaries to 2nd or 3rd place then the
topics of debate will change and the candidates will be forced to be more honest.

I don't think Dennis will carry Texas because Texans don't know him well enough and will be lied to by the corporate media. Dennis does, however, carry conservative areas in his Congressional district by decent margins election after election after election.

A final thought: John Edwards could carry Texas even though he more progressive than candidates who I don't think can carry Texas (like Clinton).

"You're all mental, I swear" isn't a very strong debating point.

...to swap formal debating points with you. I don't give a shit.

Did you know the last Democrat who won a national election with a majority of the vote was Jimmy Carter? Do you know why? It has to do with shifting demographics and the migration of many Dixiecrats into the Republican party during the 1970s and early 1980s.

That was almost thirty two years ago. Since that time, the country has become even more Evangelical and even more southern and even more conservative in some ways, more liberal in others.

Bill Clinton was probably the last best hope of the Democratic party. He was good looking, energetic and possessed a genuine intellectual curiosity and personal magnetism that only comes along once in a generation, maybe.

And so, he served two terms. And he signed NAFTA and welfare reform. And he balanced our books, God love him. And the banks and insurance companies laid in wait for him and got him impeached because he wanted to mess with their sacred cow.

And you want to nominate Dennis Kucinich for that same job? Do you understand how many millions of people break into laughter when they simply hear his name? Why would anyone who isn't on psychotropic drugs believe he has a chance?

Pelosi and Hoyer have to be a little nervous right now. The nuts and whackjobs appear to be gradually taking more control of the party as time passes...and in time, they will destroy it. Everyone knows what's happening. You can see it.

The country is not liberal. It is not progressive. It never has been.

This is not the United States of Northern California or Massachusetts!

You should have heard Harry Reid crowing about his relationship with Trent Lott today on the Senate floor.

I told ya so!

And there is more than hope. Dennis is climbing in the polls with only a fraction of the money of many of his rivals.

Even with the media blackout, short changing in terms of questions in the "debates", outrageous and petty attacks for nothing (like the "Dean scream" and "swift-boating"), Dennis is still climbing.

Let's make it happen.

He's had a "Statue of Liberty" figure on his website for a while which is a direct ripoff of the Howard Dean "Bat" fund raising graphic from 2003/04.

97. DECEMBER 15 2007.COM
DECEMBER 15, 2007 is the date on which we can begin to take back our country. It is also the date in 1791 upon which our Bill of Rights took effect.

On December 15, 2007, Dennis Kucinich will attempt to shatter Ron Paul's recent $4.2 million single day fund raising record, and collect a mind-boggling $10 million in one day.

This can only happen with your help. The website is December152007.com. Spread the word! Money is what makes the media sit up and take notice. Without it you are a fringe candidate worthy of little respect or news coverage and no speaking time in the debates - if you are even invited to them. A candidate who can raise $10 million in a single day can no longer be ignored by the mainstream media.

Please go to December152007.com and pledge to contribute on December 15 by signing up on the email list. You must actually contribute on the 15th on Dennis Kucinich's official website; a reminder email will be sent on that day.

Please also promote this event in any way you possibly can. Put a sign over the freeway. Put a large sign on your vehicle and park it somewhere legal where a lot of traffic goes by. (I did, I move it twice a day to make sure someone doesn't try to get it towed). Call a friend, email family and friends....... Now is the time to take action, not just sit on the sidelines and carp.

And by all means put your money where your mouth is - as one bumper sticker on my pickup truck says, "Talk is cheap... Make a donation!"

101. IF YOU SUPPORT IMPEACHMENT, EVEN IF YOU DON'T SUPPORT KUCINICH
Even if you have a different favorite candidate, please read this.

Please donate to Kucinich's campaign on December 15. This is the same day in 1791 upon which the Bill of Rights took effect. If he can collect $10 million in one day (or a sufficient amount to get the attention of the media like Ron Paul did) perhaps Kucinich's days of being excluded from debates will be over. Even if you prefer another Democratic candidate, please donate because WHAT HE HAS TO SAY NEEDS TO BE HEARD, and because it will HELP BUILD MOMENTUM FOR IMPEACHMENT. Go to December152007.com to pledge by signing up on the email list. You'll get a reminder email on December 15. Donations must be made through his official website, dennis4president.com, or call 877-41-DENNIS (877-413-3664.

Thanks for your attention.
