NIE Report: Iran Halted Nuclear Weapons Program Years Ago
December 03, 2007 11:51 AM

ABC News' Martha Raddatz, Jonathan Karl, Luis Martinez and Kirit Radia Report: In a stunning reversal of Bush administration conventional wisdom, a new assessment by U.S. intelligence agencies concludes Iran shelved it's nuclear weapons program over four years ago.

"We judge with high confidence that in fall 2003, Tehran halted its nuclear weapons program," reads a declassified version of the National Intelligence Estimate key findings.

"We judge with moderate confidence that the earliest possible date Iran would be technically capable of producing enough highly enriched uranium (HEU) for a weapon is late 2009."

2. Biden did not co-sponsor S. 970: Iran Counter-Proliferation Act of 2007
Obama, Dodd and Clinton did.

Of the Senators running, only Biden was wise enough to not sponsor legislation to deal with a non-existent threat.

6. Also, Edwards called both Hillary and Obama out for it.
Too bad the stacked Hillary audience was too busy booing to hear it at the debate. ;)

It hurts Hillary the most of all the candidates.

8. I think a lot of us knew it was a sham...
this whole Iran thing started back when Bush got pissed off at Iran, and they had just taken down the Taliban, who, by the way, Iran helped us get. And then Bush argued with Iran over whether or not they had/knew where OBL's brother was. Iran said they didn't have him, Bush insisted they did, so there was a stalemate, and 2 days later, Bush added Iran to the "Axis of Evil".

10. You can't consider a candidate's stance re Iran without...
...considering his or her relationship with the Israel lobby.

11. It supports anyone who didn't take an alarmist view of Iran's nuclear program
And didn't fall for the right-wing spin that we are just a titty hair away from nuclear Armageddon.

12. If Edwards uses this right it could be a gigantic plus for him
Clinton and Obama are both established Iran hawks (desire Obama's comical pretenses) so Edwards ought to simply go nuts on this.

Edited on Mon Dec-03-07 05:22 PM by 1corona4u
in a debate a long time ago...so it would look like he's jumping on Joe's bandwagon now...

Edited to clarify; Joe stated he didn't think Iran was a threat the way Pakistan was....going to look for the video....
