Poll: Clinton leads in South Carolina
Poll: Clinton Leads Obama in South Carolina; Black Democrats Split Evenly

The Associated Press
AP News

Dec 03, 2007 10:04 EST

THE RACE: The presidential race for Democrats in South Carolina

___

THE NUMBERS

Hillary Rodham Clinton, 45 percent

Barack Obama, 31 percent

John Edwards, 10 percent

___

OF INTEREST:

Clinton and Obama are tied among South Carolina's black Democratic voters, who made up about half those voting in the state's 2004 primary contest. She leads among whites, 49 percent to 16 percent. Obama is ahead with middle-income earners, though she has comfortable margins among the highest- and lowest-earning Democrats. Obama also comes close to Clinton with men, liberals, independents and young people — but faces significant deficits in most other categories.

___

The telephone poll, by The Associated Press and the Pew Research Center, was conducted Nov. 7-25 and involved interviews with 373 likely Democratic voters in South Carolina. It had a margin of sampling error of plus or minus 6 percentage points.

1. sorry, but I dont get it.
I live just over the river in Georgia and I dont see most Southerners voting for a New Yorker, be that a mayor or a female Senator.

I hope the Dem nom gets themselves a good ole southerner (Edwards?) as a running mate, else they will never win the South, nor many of the "flyover states" in the Heartland.

2. I found it interesting as well
although I'm not a Southerner, I thought States like that would trend toward Edwards. My only thought must be that Hillary's got -- and has had for a while now -- great on-the-ground organization there and has been effectively introducing herself, answering (and asking) questions and changing the minds of people who might have been reluctant to support her before. Again, it's just my opinion and, as I'm not there, I can't really know for certain.

Anything can happen, though.
