Has everyone had a chance to listen to Mike Huckabee speak?
Just wondering what you think of this asshole.

IMO, this guy is one of the most dangerous Republican lunatics to come along since Ronald Reagan and Newt Gingrich. Huckabee it the exact type of politician I would never have dreamed would still exist in 21st Century America and be doing so well at it.

I mean, this God-fearing Christian warrior actually thinks the earth was created four thousand years ago and he thinks the way to stop violence is to give every American a gun. Even a few repukes are scared of this psychopath.

The thing that makes this woman-hating nut so effective among his own people is the way he can speak. Huckabee could talk a grizzly bear out of its honey, he's that shrewd. Not only is he so shrewd, but he's smooth. One on one, I don't know if there are too many politicians who can out-wit him.

What makes Huckabee so dangerous is that in so many ways he's exactly like George Bush, only with a brain.

he's a Southern Baptist preacher, after all.

But he's not well liked in Arkansas. Seems he RAISED TAXES while in office, among other things.....

The GOPers may fall in in love with him considering all the other dolts they have to choose from.

I've been saying this for over a year. He scares the hell out of me . . . because I think he can be a serious contender. His glib, quick on his feet and Mr. Affable - with the added benefit of having a brain.

Let's just hope he doesn't get as far as a General Election. It's bad enough that maniacs like him can still so easily sway people.

20. I find myself going back and forth about how Id feel if he DID win...
On one hand I think: Excellent! This guy can never ever win the GE. And on the other hand I think: Holy shit, maybe he could.

If he starts to get a cult following ala Ron Paul... and the entire evangelical bunch gets behind him... then maybe he wins over some women (as hes so charming) etc. Plus it would be incredibly hard for any Dem to attack him. The guys a minister for crying-out-loud and the majority of Americans are Christian. Imagine Cacabee vs. Obama. oh. my. god. I could imagine it turning into some absurd religious war.

You're right. Lets hope he doesnt make it to the General Election. Whether or not he could win isnt something I want to find out first-hand. Our conversation has convinced me of that.

9. Personally likeable and charming he is, but if you
look into his political and religious philosophy, it could scare you to death. I call him the "American Imam". he will bring his reactionary extremist religious views to play if he becomes the President. And that's not as far tetched as it may seem, he is now in first place in Iowa according to one recent poll. If he catches on among the repubs we could be in a world of hurt if he wins. We could be looking back at the "good old days" of GW Bush.

there are Republicans who are sick of the George Bush/ bad President who talks about Jesus but sucks at everything else type candidate. How many of them there are, I don't know.

It will be interesting to see the Jesus-rode-a-dinosaur crowd duke it out with the Club for Growth types in the Repub primary.

On a side note, he is probably the dorkiest candidate the Repubs have.

16. The oxymoronic "Club for Growth" hates him
He made a read my lips pledge on taxes and reneged on it. They've been working against him since it was rumored that he would throw his hat in the ring. It's the reason that he's embraced the idiotic "fair" tax proposal. He did that as an attempt to pacify that particular wing nut group. It hasn't worked too well since he's lagging in big donor contributions.

17. Yes, he was on
one of the talking head shows today and was being grilled for being soft on meth dealers, he spun around and said some shit about how he thought that we shouldn't punish children for the parent's crimes or "SINS", at that point I didn't know if I should laugh or cry, this man is being considered for president and he believes we should punish sinners.

Who gets to decide the sin, and the punishment?

the bible is the literal word of God and that earth is only 6 thousand years old.

Anyone who would even consider voting for him is as dangerous a lunatic as he is.

If he gets the nom and wins the election, I'm through. America will be getting exactly what she deserves for her mass stupidity.

I strongly suspect he is a Dominionist, but would deny it if asked.

I thought he believed the earth was only 4 thousand years old, but 4 thousand or 6 thousand, what's a couple thousand years out of 4.5 billion or so?

30. Thank you! I just found that article. Everyone here should read it
Huckabee really is a lunatic. Here is one paragraph from that Rolling Stone article you mentioned. It's a lengthy article but worth every word.

But Huckabee is also something else: full-blown nuts, a Christian goofball of the highest order. He believes the Earth may be only 6,000 years old, angrily rejects the evidence that human beings evolved from "primates" and thinks America wouldn't need so much Mexican labor if we allowed every aborted fetus to grow up and enter the workforce. To top it off, Huckabee also left behind a record of ethical missteps in the swamp of Arkansas politics that make Whitewater seem like a jaywalking ticket.

31. I've been saying this for months now
He's slick. He's charming. He's down to earth and humble...

He's a nutjob, but that gets easily glossed over.

I think he's the most dangerous opponent from the GOP. Maybe the only dangerous one. And now that Kaiser Rudy seems to be self-immolating, and the blow-dry boy starts to realize that he'll never get the rw evangelical vote, Huckabee could end up getting the nod.

It worries me.

Edited on Sun Dec-02-07 09:04 PM by wienerdoggie
he's a "Christian leader". Now, that sends me running and screaming away, I don't know about anyone else. If you are nakedly, openly using your religious background and affiliation as your main qualification to be President, you are no different than any other wacked-out theocrat anywhere in the world. Republicans are in constant fear of Islamic Sharia Law coming to America--this must be how they plan to combat the imaginary threat--with their OWN Taliban. Fucking scary.

36. Yep, that commercial's now running in Iowa. There's no subtlety
at all about the "Christian Leader" part - it's on the screen in HUGH letters, to make sure you don't miss that point at all! "Don't listen to that fake excuse for Christian (Romney), and don't even think about those other heathens!"

I was yelling at the TV when I saw that yesterday - I just continue to be flabbergasted at the amount of religious pandering a candidate appears to obligated to perform in order to achieve victory in this country these days.
