Nice profile in NH's Keene Sentinel....I did not know this story about her mother being abandoned as a little one....Sad.
A life spent pushing for change
Mother's story led Clinton to advocacyHillary Clinton can still remember, as a young girl, hearing the story of her mother's early life for the first time.
Dorothy Howell Rodham was abandoned by her mother at 3 or 4 years old, forced to move in with unloving grandparents, and found a job at just 14 years old.

On the campaign trail today, Clinton has been roundly attacked and criticized, called cold, calculating, polarizing and pandering.
But longtime friends and colleagues describe Clinton as smart, focused, funny and sincere - someone who won't stop fighting for what she feels is right.

In her memoir, "Living History," Hillary Clinton described some of the experiences that affected her: after defending an alleged rapist, she talked with a close friend about setting up the state's first rape hotline; and after giving birth to daughter Chelsea, she and her husband "emerged from our experience committed to ensuring that all parents have the option to stay home with their newborn children ..." she wrote.
The beginnings of another major project - helping found the Arkansas Advocates for Children and Families in 1977 - were rooted in Clinton's representation of a couple who had trouble adopting a foster child.
"My experience on this case and others convinced me that Arkansas needed a statewide organization devoted to advocating for children's rights and interests," Clinton wrote.

Above all, Clinton always had a commitment to children and families, Bronfman said.
"She was also extremely focused in what she did," Bronfman said, no matter the opposition. "She could take an issue ... and just keep on marching toward the goal because she knew it was the right thing to do."
