Bill Bennett suggests the gay general at the Pug debate was a Hillary plant
Edited on Wed Nov-28-07 10:54 PM by Kurt_and_Hunter
For those who "missed" the pug debate, Brigadier General Keith H. Kerr, a gay retired Brigadier General was allowed to ask a question about gays in the military, then allowed to comment on the lameness of the candidates answers. It was pretty tough on the pugs.

Bennett came on CNN after the debate and said he's getting a bunch of emails saying the general on Clinton's "gay steering committee" (On edit: That seems to be accurate, and he was a Kerry backer also)

Anderson Cooper disavows knowledge of it.

Expect a world of whining from the usual suspects.

All I can say is that if Hillary can plant questions at the Republican debate, she's doing something right.

1. Hey Kurt, I only caught the end of that guy, when he was questioning McCain...
Who else answered his questions? All of them?

2. I'm NOT a Hillary fan, but OH PLEASE. that is desparate.
The was the worst moment of the debate. Pretty awful to have a man who served this country brought to tears by ignorance.

27. But why was he given a microphone at all?
None of the other questioners were. They all had their 30 second videos and that was it.

29. I remember in the Dem debate they gave the mic to a guy in the audience too
Beats me why they would do it, though.

too funny though, I will give Hillary points on that one, and I will even hold my negative comment to give Hillary supporters their moment.

22. yeah, he's a gay soldier asking about gays in the military...
Would someone who's black be prohibited from asking any other candidates a question relating to issues concerning black people because he advises another candidate? I'd certainly hope not.

Anyway, the only way I'd find the Hillary connection to be a problem is if it were during a debate that Hillary's taking part in, because it would be reasonable to suspect she'd already know the question's coming. Since she wasn't there, I don't see how it matters, as all of the participants were on equal ground in responding to the question.

But it was a great way to get the issue discussed and didn't ultimately hurt the debate.

to back up his assertion? Or...what kind of affiliation? Is she working to over-turn "Don't ask don't tell", and if so, would there not be members of the military that support her efforts?

19. He has a valid complaint, insofar as I'd be pissed if a questioner picked by CNN for a Dem
debate was affiliated with one of the pug campaigns.

But, you know what? FUCK 'EM. Score one for our side.

It was oddly amusing to see the Repugs openly disrespect the General...after all, hating gays in public is a huge moneymaker for them.

25. And be sure and read his new book:
Bill Bennett: Dispatches from The Fever Swamps.

One gets the feeling that one day, on TV, he will snap out and start masturbating furiously and babbling incoherently, then be hauled off by six burly stagehands, never to be seen again.

A Hillary plant. :eyes:

and if this doesn't get mentioned as often in the next day's new cycle, we should keep emailing and yelling until it does:

32. There had to be one of the other G's to end God and Guns.
I have a feeling that an elderly 30+ year service flag officer gets to ask a single question when he wants to ask one at a public event! Would you turn him down? I see AC didn't.

All in all, rather uneventful, a lot less "Reagan" than the last time the Republic show was on, so not a complete rerun. Always good for a few laughs when one called out the other for not being conservative or loving Jesus, Friedman, or Joseph Smith (as the case might be)enough.

35. This was SO irresponsible - but not surprising
If Bennett really suspected this person was a plant and that CNN should address it, he could easily have mentioned it off-camera to one of the several producers who were surely hovering around him.

His point was not to alert CNN to a problem, but to smear Hillary - and to signal all of the other right-wing sites to run with the claim, whether or not it's true.

Now, even if it's completely debunked, it's out there in the atmosphere.

He served his purpose. And CNN gave him the platform.

Edited on Thu Nov-29-07 08:45 AM by RichGirl
...who bash Hillary for her tactics: keep in mind that what she is doing to her primary opponents she will do to a greater extent to her republican opponent. If we were going against reasonable people in a fair fight I would not like these tactics. But they fight dirty and we need someone who will beat them at their own game.

"Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned." Hillary quietly forgave Bill. The fury must be bottled up and she can use it to blast her opponent. (If she wins, that is...don't want to sound presumptious.)
