Obama brings on Carlyle Group lobbyist as a senior advisor.
Edited on Tue Nov-27-07 08:33 PM by Karmadillo
Since there's so much interest about a Carlyle lobbyist's endorsement of Hillary, I thought people might enjoy reading this.

Obama Brings on Top Lobbyist

Former Dick Gephardt presidential campaign adviser Moses Mercado hasn't even joined the Barack Obama presidential campaign team and already he's making waves.

Mercado, a veteran field man who organized Gephardt's primary operations in Arizona and New Mexico, and later John Kerry's general election operations there, confirmed he is finalizing plans to serve as a senior adviser to the Obama campaign.

The waves are being generated by Mercado's other line of work -- as a lobbyist with Ogilvy Government Relations who is registered to represent several dozen big-name clients, including the National Rifle Association, the Carlyle Group, the Blackstone Group, Monsanto, Pfizer Inc., United Health Group, Sempra Energy and Constellation Energy.

His resume seems to contradict one of Obama's central themes on the campaign trail -- that as an outsider he can fend of the powerful business interests that he has argued have contributed to the income gap between rich and poor and has frustrated attempts to address issues such as high prescription drug costs and global warming.

and he has a history of taking lobbyist money. His distaste for lobbyist money is a very recent development

Edited on Tue Nov-27-07 09:11 PM by Dr_eldritch
In the other thread you claim that Marchik is acting soley on his own in support of Hillary with no evidence he is not acting in the interests of his employer, The Carlyle Group, and then you turn around and accuse Obama of paying The Carlyle Group because he hired a guy who had The Carlyle Group as another client!!!

Seriously... if you wanted to support Hillary you'd not resort to such childish and transparent hypocrisy.

Do you think you're fooling anyone?

Edited to add; Shouldn't be long before your buddy K_and_H jumps in here, should it?

LMAO!

6. What the FUCK are Democrats doing, associating with Carlyle people?
Edited on Tue Nov-27-07 08:20 PM by IntravenousDemilo
They shouldn't even be in the same room with them, much less take money from them. Shame on both Obama and Clinton. Carlyle is not only associated with the Bush family, but the bin Laden family. People are known by the company they keep. If any money has changed hands, it should be returned immediately.

Who is Moses Mercado?

Prior to joining Ogilvy Government Relations, Moses Mercado served as the Deputy Executive Director, Director of Intergovernmental Affairs for Governor Howard Dean at the Democratic National Committee. He was responsible for all outreach and communications to the U.S. House and Senate, Governors, Mayor's and local elected officials. He also advised the Governor on Congressional Leadership and elected officials policies and activities. He has been appointed by the National Democratic Chairman Governor Howard Dean as a DNC-At-Large member serving on the Resolutions Committee.
Mr. Mercado served as Deputy Chief of Staff to U.S. House of Representatives Democratic Leader Richard A. Gephardt for six years. As second in command to the House's top-ranking Democrat, Mr. Mercado's diverse responsibilities included assisting in the day-to-day management of Leader's Office operations. He wore both political and policy hats, coordinating decisions, and acting as liaison to the Democrat Caucus (e.g., working to design and implement short- and long-term legislative policy positions), in addition to effectively communicating Democrat leadership views to interested parties off of Capitol Hill. Mr. Mercado was the chief advisor to the Democratic Leader with respect to legislative issues affecting the Latino community.
Before joining the Democratic Leader's office, Mr. Mercado served as Chief of Staff for Congressman Gene Green (D-TX). In that capacity, Mercado was responsible for the management and administration of office operations in the Congressman's Capitol Hill office. He coordinated the Member's legislative agenda, as well as all political and policy decisions.

Oh, oogey boogey! What an evil guy. He works for a firm that happens to have a bunch of clients, of which Carlyle is one. He does not work for Carlyle, and has been in public service until joining this firm rather recently.

I am tired of people reading a headline and taking no time to research anything. Shouting slogans, especially when uninformed, is getting truly dull.

I worked at an ad agency that did work for another ad agency where they work for a marketing group that did work as outside vendors for Raytheon. I laid out some ads and did some web programming for a web site that was in part co-sponsored by Raytheon.

My bad...

15. Not much of a there there
==Obama aides said yesterday no one can work on the campaign and still be registered on behalf of clients as a lobbyist, and Mercado will not be exempted from that requirement.

Mercado, who is close with Obama campaign manager David Plouffe, said his recent work as a lobbyist will not impede his ability to participate in a presidential campaign. He confirmed he would be taking a leave from Ogilvy, though the timing and temrs have not yet been ironed out.

"First and foremost, I'm an American and I participate in the process," he said. "That's the most important thing. I've always been involved in the process. That's why I'm going to be leaving , so that there isn't any question."==
