Edwards Announces Paid Family Leave
Wow, I just always see Edwards out front on issues of family and the real working people of America. When I was growing up in our great country, this is what I was taught a real Democratic candidate talked about, and stand for.

By HOLLY RAMER

Associated Press Writer

LEBANON, N.H. — When it comes to helping parents take time off from work, Democratic presidential hopeful John Edwards is raising the stakes.

The former North Carolina senator on Tuesday proposed spending $2 billion a year to help states create family leave programs that offer workers at least eight weeks of paid time off to care for a newborn or ill family member. The proposal is similar to those offered by his rivals, but Edwards would put up more money — New York Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton's plan calls for $1 billion a year; Illinois Sen. Barack Obama proposes $1.5 billion.

"It's really important for parents for families to be able to take this leave, to be able to do it and not lose their income, which is a huge drain on millions of families in this country," he said at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon.

The rest...

5. lol... thanks!
yeah, I figure we're not very popular, but all I could think to say to a child, were I to bring them into the world, is this: "Gee, I'm sorry I got you into this mess."

You can have the child that might help bring about the change the world needs. I have high hopes for my 17 year old daughter! (And please see reply 2, almost all of us has someone in the world that may need help at some time.)

He cares, too, and has taken steps to get the ball rolling.

Just sayin'. :hi:

EDIT: If I'm going to praise my candidate, it'd probably be a good thing if I spelled his name correctly. :eyes:

My God, you're like the kid in class that reminds the teacher she forgot to assign homework. I admire how much you support Biden, and I think he's a good guy, hell most of our candidates are great compared to anything offered from the other side.

But seriously guys, just one post today? How 'bout it? It's something Biden, in his infinite wisdom, might chose to do.

Just sayin'. :hi:

12. Okay, I'll call a brief detente --
It's just that -- schmaltzy as this sounds -- I'm really proud of Biden's accomplishments and my belief in him is STRONG (as if you didn't know :7)

But you have my word. My ipps-lay are ipp-zayed. For the time being anyway.

A spokesman for Dodd noted that as a senator, Edwards did not join Dodd in co-sponsoring legislation to expand the Family and Medical Leave Act.

"While we wish Mr. Edwards had signed on to Senator Dodd's efforts to expand FMLA while he was in the Senate, or for that matter, remained in the Senate to help Senator Dodd's efforts to pass a paid FMLA bill now, we welcome him to the issue," said Bryan DeAngelis.

Yet another world class flip from Edwards.

18. Man,
You just don't get IT do you? You're not going to change anyones mind by coming into a positive post and snaking on it. There's plenty of negative posts out there, go knock yourself out.

Do you really think you will change my mind by citing votes from a Senate record? I've voted in every election sense 1980 buddy, and I can tell you this, you can never, ever have a perfect, or even close to perfect voting record in the Senate. It's about compromise, as much as Progressives may hate it, that's what it is ALL about.

Good luck to you. And good luck to your candidate.
Bye now.

My pick.

27. Best part: 8 weeks paid leave for ALL by 2014.
European workers all have many more weeks of holiday and other time off than overworked, over-stressed Americans. Thanks goodness for a strong, pro-labor candidate who will stand up to the corporations and stand up for working men and women!
