I think DK respects him for bring principled and doing what he thinks is best. This doesn't make him right, as he's very wrong on most things, but it's still an important factor in deciding what to think of the man.

Both justify their lack of support by claiming they're the "only true (liberal/conservative)," and their simplistic messages by claiming they're the only "truth-tellers" out there.
