The more I think about who he should have picked instead of Lieberman the more I think she would have been the best choice. I think it could have put a major damper on the Nader support.

1. I love Boxer
She eases some of the pain of having to endure Feinstein.

3. There will always be Greens running against Democrats
They ran against Lamont and Wellstone.
It doesn't matter who is on the ticket.

4. This is from wikipedia.
Gore considered:
* Massachusetts Senator John Kerry
* North Carolina Senator John Edwards
* New Hampshire Governor Jeanne Shaheen
* Iowa Senator Tom Harkin
* Indiana Senator Evan Bayh
* California Senator Dianne Feinstein
* Former Georgia Senator Sam Nunn
* Former Maine Senator and Majority Leader George J. Mitchell
* House Minority Leader and Missouri Congressman Dick Gephardt
* Florida Senator and former Governor Bob Graham

Shaheen or Graham would have won their states for sure.

5. Gore miscalculated terribly with the Lieberman pick.

As you say, if he picked the FL or NH politicians, he's President for the last 7 years.

Because we now have red states and blue states.

Gore didn't know when he was making his decision that it would come down to Florida and New Hampshire because the concept of red states and blue states didn't really exist yet. Every election since Raygun had been won by a fairly wide electoral margin.

By 2004 the red state blue state phenomenon was firmly in place and it was clear from the start that the only states that went to Bush the previous time that would really be competitive were Florida, New Hampshire, and Ohio, Missouri to a much lesser extent. Kerry might have done better if he'd picked Bob Graham or Ted Strickland.
