Riding around NH yesterday, I counted campaign signs.
ok. I know it sounds a little bit OCD but when you have to a couple of hours in the car (each way) in rural NH, it can get a little boring. Ya know? Anyway I kept a runny tally in my handy notebook and the results were interesting to say the least.

For clarity, I counted groups of signs on the same lawn as one. So, here are the results - for amusement purposes only.

Democrats
Edwards: 32 lawn signs
Gravel: 24 lawn signs AND 15 large billboards
Dodd: 16 lawn signs
Clinton: 3 lawn signs
Obama, Kucinich, Richardson, Biden: 0

Republicans
Paul: 20 lawn signs AND 20 large billboards
Huckabee: 8 lawn signs
Romney: 4 lawn signs
Guiliani, McCain, Thompson, Hunter, Tancredo: 0

Im not implying that it means anything. Its just interesting. Dontcha think?

2. The exact OPPOSITE of the Tee Vee ad saturation for the top tier candidates.
Fucking Romney is on the air with his Stepford commercial constantly. Guiliani lisps along frequently, too, thaying that he ithint PERFECT.

Clinton and Obama are about the same in ad coverage, Edwards slightly behind (he did have a good THANKSGIVING ad running in frequent rotation, though).

3. Hey bunnies, thanks for the tally.
I'd love to know what you might remember from 2003/2004 at this time.

Was there a Dem candidate who seemed to have a majority of the vote, via conversation, lawn signs, or other indicators?

I'm guessing Gov. Dean was in the running, but that's mere speculation.

Were there some? any? many? GWB signs?

Welcome to DU! MKJ

20. Well, from what I remember...
There were Dean & Clark signs all over the place, some Kerry, quite a few Kucinich. I guess the number of Clark signs shows that they werent really indicative of how many votes he got. By the signs Id have thought he would have come in second. However I think the whole 'scream' thing really shook things up around here. The media really hounded Dean on that. Ugh. I was furious. I speculate that he'd have won NH if not for that... so the outcome for all the candidates would have been different.

The Bush signs didnt come out in big numbers until the GE. But close to the election they were everywhere. It was sickening. But as I recall, there were far more Kerry - Edwards.

Thanks for the welcome! :hi:

there's a bunch of closet fundies here.

I've seen Obama, Kucinich and Richardson signs about. Mostly in the seacoast region.

7. Where in NH are you doing the counting?
Are you just counting signs in people's yards or are you including those which are on public property as well( traffic islands, getting on and off exit ramps - I'm in NH frequently and I see too many signs on "public property" which really shuldn't count)

18. Starting from the seacoast region and going NW...
Edited on Sat Nov-24-07 11:30 AM by bunnies
almost to VT, then over to the middle of the state, then down almost to the MA border. I did see many signs on public property but didnt bother to count those. I really only wanted to count what people had put up on their own property. Surprisingly though... The signs that I did see on public property were not out of sync with what I saw on the lawns. For example... I didnt see a SINGLE Giuliani sign. Not one.

edit: spelling

8. To my surprise lawn signs might be on their way out
I was at a conference where Patrica Tood spoke, she is the first lesbian elected to the Alabama House. The victory fund, which tutors gay candidates, told her not to spend on yardsigns. She disagreed and did it anyway in a very clever way, but I as surprised to hear that was the advice she was given.

11. I'm surprised, too. It got more exciting here in TX land
when I saw a Kerry sign or two in 04. I don't believe that. Signs make people think, or perhaps only people who think about politics to begin with. Hopefully there will be a lot of that going on real soon.

15. Biden & Kucinich seem to have no organization here.
Which is unfortunate!

12. Salem NH: Scores of Richardson signs.
Lots of Hillary signs too. No Obamas or Edwards at all. Several Romneys and a few Pauls.

14. In SW NH
ON the Republican side, Romney and Ron Paul dominate in the sign sweeps. For the rational side, Obama and Clinton predominate.

This is lawn signs on lawns and lawn signs and larger along the main roads. Purely anecdotal, not at all scientific. Not much in the way of bumper stickers one way or the other.

Not too far at all. I also only counted signs at residences. Maybe thats the difference.

13. I think I can explain the large amount of Gravel signs, if you don't already know.
I believe someone was paying people $25 to put a Gravel sign on their lawn. I remember reading an article on here a few weeks ago.

You should see the size of these billboards. Like 3' by 5'. I wonder how much they got paid to put those up. :eyes:

23. I was in the Keene, NH area the other day and Kucinich had the most signs.
Romney had giant ones and there were quite a few for Ron Paul. I saw the best sign today, though. It was a professionally printed sign on a lawn in Brattleboro, Vermont that said "Impeachment Zone."

24. I used to think it meant something but no it doesn't
in the early days it was generally an indication but now in the case of the big camapign spenders it means nothing.
