I can't vote for Obama, his church is too freaky.
They preach Black power without disparaging whites.

They minister to those afflicted with AIDS/HIV, prisoners, and something called "Same Gender Loving Families."

They preach LIBERATION and ECONOMIC PARITY.

Their newsletter has all this stuff about politics in it, AND some nonsense about voter registration.

They've pledged to support Africa and they don't apologize for their African roots.

The only action item for the week is not shopping at Wal-Mart or Sam's Club.

There's some hoo-ha about Thanksgiving not being a happy time for Native Americans in the newsletter.

There's all these words like Umoja Karamu, Isuthu, Intonjane, and other words that ain't English.

They've got a math tutorial group in a church.

Their mission statement reads:

Trinity United Church of Christ has been called by God to be a congregation that is not ashamed of the gospel of Jesus Christ and that does not apologize for its African roots! As a congregation of baptized believers, we are called to be agents of liberation not only for the oppressed, but for all of God’s family. We, as a church family, acknowledge, that we will, building on this affirmation of "who we are" and "whose we are," call men, women, boys and girls to the liberating love of Jesus Christ, inviting them to become a part of the church universal, responding to Jesus’ command that we go into all the world and make disciples!

We are called out to be "a chosen people" that pays no attention to socio-economic or educational backgrounds. We are made up of the highly educated and the uneducated. Our congregation is a combination of the haves and the have-nots; the economically disadvantaged, the under-class, the unemployed and the employable.

The fortunate who are among us combine forces with the less fortunate to become agents of change for God who is not pleased with America’s economic mal-distribution!

W.E.B. DuBois indicated that the problem in the 20th century was going to be the problem of the color line. He was absolutely correct. Our job as servants of God is to address that problem and eradicate it in the name of Him who came for the whole world by calling all men, women, boys and girls to Christ.

In short, these people are Communists.

Obama has lost my vote.

(Well, okay, maybe I've been re-affirmed in my vote. ;-) )

1. Obama should pay attention to the "Same Gender Loving Families" part
That way he wouldn't hire spokespeople who say gays are trying to kill children.

6. That's what I don't understand. HIS CHURCH supports same sex couples but
he doesn't. The really odd part is that he claims it's because of "religious" reasons.

11. None of the top three candidates support allowing gays to marry.
If you want a candidate with such views, maybe you should look to Dennis Kucinich.

12. I understand that. But why does Obama claim it's for "religious" reasons
When his christian denomination SUPPORTS same sex marriage?

2. Howard Dean belongs to UCC, too.

It's the only church I'd consider joining if I was Christian. I think CNN turned down ads from them during the 2004
general election season because they were too "controversial". UCC is probably the most liberal church in America.

5. christianity practised as one could hope it would be.
that being said -- obama needs to change his approach to gay folk.

and stop appearing with bigots if he doesn't approve of a bigoted message.

8. It's okay to believe in mythologies
such as resurrection (an old myth from a number of cultures) and a divine persona (everyone and their brother must have invented one at one time), so none of that really bothers me. Injecting conservative or rightwing propaganda into religion is what bothers me. I dont' see this in TUCC, thank god.

Obama would have my vote whether he was a Buddhist or some other religion, as long as he doesn't push a war-monger's agenda. That's why he stands out as the best candidate IMHO.
