This ruling by the SC will cause chaos in the campaign, if they rule just before or just after
our convention and before the GOP convention. IMO, they will rule the 2nd amendment case is a right reserved to the states setting up a 50 state solution and a campaign fight for us in every state. It will get us off message(if we have one) and give the GOP time to come up with a national talking point.

This post is not to debate the meaning of the 2nd amendment but to alert our campaign managers to be ready with a response (possible 50 of them).

1. Easy solution: drop the AWB nonsense and stick to our platform...
...which says that we will continue to protect Americans' right to keep and bear arms.

We've been following Republicans like Sarah Brady into oblivion on this issue for too long.

2. Relax Hombre. More than likely, they will find some non-constitutional
grounds to decide the issue, such as municipalities and states have a right to reasonable regulation of firearms.

Preferably, of course, we could simply remove the issue from the voter's screen by admitting that the 2nd Amendment means what it says. You're going to have a very hard time arguing that "the people," alone among all other mentions of "the people" in the Consuitution and its amendments, refers not to individuals, but somehow to "the states." I'm glad the states know they have the right to be secure in their persons from unreasonable searches.

Some may not like the plain meaning, but there it is. Is it worth losing all those southern rascist votes?
