So now Obama is playing the race card!
"Michelle Obama says America will be viewed differently with a black president"..........etc

Please tell me why it's perfectly OK for Obama to play the race card but it's a mortal sin...worthy of a weeks supply of negative news on every single channel...for Hillary to insinuate people should vote for her because she's a woman? I bet no one in the MSM will accuse Obama of playing the race card.

4. Ms. Obama is not using it as an excuse and she
is not trying to portray her husband as a victim of racism.

Moreover, what she's saying is plainly true.

9. Probably not...black people have a different perspective on
many things...gay people do also, as do WOMEN. That was HIlary's point a while back, and she got crucified. Obama gets a free pass pretty much.

12. Did Obama talk about being prepared
to enter the "white people's club?"

No.

The plain fact is that Obama's election WOULD change the image of the US in a way that no other candidate would. Seymour Hersh has said this.

36. So I'm sure...
...you would think it just peachy if Hillary said that a woman as president would change the image of the US. It would, actually, AND a Hillary Clinton presidency would change the image of the US in a very positive way. The Clintons are loved, admired and respected all over the world.

25. Sen. Clinton never used it as an excuse either. And neither did her husband,
Edited on Tue Nov-20-07 07:13 PM by pnwmom
not when you read the FULL quote, in context.

In the South, it is common for adults to refer to each other as boys and girls. Hillary's husband has referred to her as a girl, and he's referred to her opponents as boys. And it is true that, with the help of Russert, they were all piling on. But Hillary has said all along that that was because she was ahead, not because she was a woman.

she was, " trying to break through the thickest glaas ceiling ever created." I do believe the "glass ceiling " is a direct reference to women.

This "card playing" crap is pretty silly. The statement by Sen. Clinton & Mrs Obama are both realities and should be treated as such.

Also agreed that Sen. Clinton and Mrs. Obama both have valid points.

31. She's no victim. She's a survivor and a tough opponent.
And any 60 year old woman who has made it in the world of law and politics has had to crash through a great number of ceilings on her way, beginning with the one she cracked when she was admitted to Yale and Harvard Law -- when full professors openly expressed the opinion that women didn't belong there.

17. That's just not true
"Imagine our family on that inaugural platform," she said. "America will look at itself differently. The world will look at America differently. There is no other candidate who is going to do that for our country. You know that."

We can debate the propriety of saying people should vote for Obama because he's black. Maybe people should vote for him because he's black. Maybe it would be a great thing for the country or the world.

But there's no point denying it is said.

Besides, Mrs. Obama is right--and since not all that countries "viewing" America have white leaders, that's not necessarily a disadvantage. And I'd say that even if I was vacillating between him and Edwards.

34. So.......
If someone points out their differences and how it works to their advantage against their opponent, that's playing some kind of card? Why can't Obama mention that he is black? That is obvious. They are only setting themselves apart from their rivals and describing to America how that distinguishes them from the status quo. Smart move. Nothing to be outraged about so please simmer down.

38. OK. I'm simmered down! Now let me explain what's bugging me.
It's not that Obama is playing the race card. How could he not be expected to...he's obviously black and would be a fool not to use it to his advantage? Even if he didn't mention it...it's obvious, and we will all have a reaction to that fact...some good...some bad.

Now let me repeat that using Hillary instead of Obama.

It's not that Hillary is playing the gender card. How could she not be expected to...she's obviously female and would be a fool not to use it to her advantage? Even if she didn't mention it...it's obvious, and we will all have a reaction to that fact...some good...some bad.

What I'm getting at and why I posted this is NOT TO CRITICIZE OBAMA, but to point out the UNFAIRNESS to Hillary when the media criticized her severely for having the nerve to play the gender card and not even notice when Obama plays the race card. Today's comment by Michele showed how obvious it was.

I hope that explains my post better.

Edited on Tue Nov-20-07 08:08 PM by ClarkUSA
Like Hillaryworld tried and failed to do with the gender and swiftboat card after she fucked up with her politics
of parsing at the Philly debate.

See Clarence Thomas' "high-tech lynching" out of jail free card. Now, that's playing the race card.

Michelle Obama is merely stating an opinion that is 100% true. She and her husband are not playing victim.
That's obvious to anyone other than a Clinton Kool-Aide drinker.

Try again.
