KNOXVILLE, Iowa -- The economy needs help and fast, Hillary Rodham Clinton declared Monday, claiming the experience for the job and saying the nation can't afford to break in a newcomer.

Without mentioning names, she suggested Democratic rival Barack Obama -- less than three years into his first term in the Senate -- and other candidates lack the experience necessary to address the nation's fiscal challenges.

''There is one job we can't afford on-the-job training for -- our next president. That could be the costliest job training in history,'' Clinton said.

Obama offered a sharp response.

''My understanding is she wasn't Treasury secretary in the Clinton administration. I don't know exactly what experience she's claiming,'' he said. ''Rather than just assert experience, if she has specific differences with me in regard to economic policy then let's have that debate.'' <ZING>

repubs plenty of ammo to use against them for the general election with lots of nice videos & quotes. Sigh.

6. Ya know I've also wondered about all this 'experience" she's claiming

It's fine to say she was on this commission or that board but that does not amount to the type of administrative executive experience that the pres of the US needs to have. And she better learn how to play defense because that's all she'll be doing in the general election campaign. Right now she's taking criticism (fairly mild IMHO) from her primary opponents but the press is giving her a pretty wide pass. That won't be the case once the repubs start dumping on her. The press will pile on instead of laying back, the mud will be slung 24/7 and she won't have time to brag about all her experience, she'll be spending all her time denying that she had Vince Foster whacked, that she had an affair with foster, that she's a lesbian, or that she's a crook.

For all the talk I hear about how tough she is I have my doubts she's up to this.

7. I had hoped Obama had dropped the meaness and win at any cost of his election to the Ill House after

losing the prior election to Bobby Rush.

He has shown he can play down and dirty (in legal strategy so as to kill off an opponent that appears ready to beat you) with the best of the pols in the past - but I had hoped that was a 1 election reaction to losing the prior election.

He still seems a straight arrow to me and his statements are not that big a deal as yet, but he might be bending a bit.
