Bill Richardson nominated for Nobel Peace Prize!
Edited on Thu Nov-15-07 04:27 PM by gateley
WASHINGTON (CNN) — Democratic presidential candidate Bill Richardson has something new to tout at Thursday night's Democratic presidential debate — a fifth Nobel Peace Prize nomination.

Rep. Bart Gordon, D-Tennessee, officially nominated the New Mexico governor for the honor on Thursday, praising Richardson for his trips earlier this year to Darfur and North Korea.

"We live in a volatile world, but people like Bill Richardson are reaching out through diplomatic efforts to reduce those tensions," Gordon said in a statement. "He has worked tirelessly during his 22 years of public service, and his efforts this year alone are certainly worthy of this high recognition."

The official nomination was co-signed by 13 members of Congress, including one Republican — Rep. Jim Ramstad of Minnesota.

Richardson, a former ambassador to the United Nations, has been nominated for the Nobel Peace prize four times before, according to his presidential Web site.

In response to the latest nomination, Richardson said in a statement he is "profoundly humbled."

"There are hundreds of dedicated advocates, non-profits, humanitarian organizations, and public servants, who work each day to reduce tension in Korea and try to bring peace to Darfur," Richardson said. "I'm touched to be nominated by a great public servant like Congressman Bart Gordon, and his Republican and Democratic colleagues in Congress."

1. Good for Richardson.
It's really a shame he's done so poorly in the debates and has so little charisma. One of the best qualified candidates I've ever seen.

2. But he HAS NOT done poorly in the debates. And he has plenty of charisma.
How has he gotten to 12% in Iowa??? He exudes charisma on the stump. That's where it counts.

4. I've heard that about him - about how his charisma comes across when stumping.
I've also heard him speak when he wasn't 'on the spot' like in debates, and he IS good!

And yeah - look at the Iowa poll. (I look at it with envy - but am really pleased for Richardson!)
