House passes $50B Iraq withdrawal bill - (AP)
WASHINGTON - House Democrats pushed through a $50 billion bill for the Iraq war Wednesday night that would require President Bush to start bringing troops home in coming weeks with a goal of ending combat by December 2008.
The legislation, passed 218-203, was largely a symbolic jab at Bush, who already has begun reducing force levels...
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20071115/ap_on_go_co/us_iraqIt's too late to force Bush's hand on this. Any legislation passed now is going to have to be enforced largely by the next president. Spring was the time to force this occupation to an end, and to send a message to Bush that he is not a dictator. Sadly, the attempt was made by folks who don't have strong convictions or don't have the courage to match. So the occupation goes on - until after Bush is gone.
This looks like an attempt by congressional Dems to regain favor with the ones who put them in office. No, thank you. I have seen quite enough.
After having voluntarily funded the occupation once already, and allowing Bush to increase troop levels with impunity, the congress has established itself as a patsy, and a willing partner in this fiasco.
