Biden overcame tragedy and became an expert on world affairs
If you're considering Biden, you may find this interesting...

By RENEE SCHOOF
McClatchy Newspaper

Under cover of night, Sen. Joseph Biden Jr. drove up to a yellowed stucco mansion in Belgrade where Yugoslavian leader Slobodan Milosevic was waiting. It was April 1993, about a year after Serbian forces and paramilitary gangs armed by Milosevic had unleashed a murderous campaign against Bosnia's Croats and Muslims.

Biden had been calling for sanctions and NATO air strikes against the Serbs and lifting a weapons ban on the Bosnians. All that would happen later, but at the time he was getting nowhere. Milosevic was paying attention, though. He invited Biden to his palace for a private chat.

As Biden tells the story in his memoir "Promises to Keep," the Serbian leader argued that the Serbs weren't persecutors but victims. Biden responded with accusations of Serbian atrocities. Milosevic denied them.

Finally, Biden recalled, "Milosevic could tell I had just about had it with his lies, and at one point he looked up from the maps and said, without any emotion, `What do you think of me?'"

"I think you're a damn war criminal, and you should be tried as one."

responding to Biden's passionate discourse on Iran!

27. So there are actual a good number of people on DU...
that support Biden. When I decided to vote for him In August, I was treated unkindly by many around here.
Now, I'm in good company.

33. I think that when people began to listen to him - see him in debates and on
news shows, they realized there might be something more to him than they were aware. Also recently, his place in the Pakistan situation - pretty impressive.

It's just too easy for us all to hear something about a candidate, accept it at face value, and base our decisions on that. I have to be constantly vigilant that I don't do that and it's not all that easy sometimes.

I'm impressed by the number of people who have taken the time to research Joe a little further, and appreciative of their effort, regardless of whether they become Biden supporters or not.

You've had a tough, lonely journey -- but we're here now -- and ain't it grand? :grouphug:

Very exciting to be a Biden supporter these days!

15. C'mon Kerry!
Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass., said that Biden as president would be "very good at bringing people together and sitting down and working through problems. He'd know how to get the business done."

Just do it already!

And I love the story about the dogs too :)

17. Colleagues say Biden is a hard worker who puts in a lot of time learning from experts.
That's key - - turning to the experts to learn. Not everybody is smart enough -- or willing -- to do that.

AND..

At first read I thought his salary for teaching was $205,000 which I thought sounded high but I was happy for Joe.

Upon reading it again, I see it's $20,500 - a BIG difference. That indicates to me he's doing it because he loves it. I'm impressed yet AGAIN!

30. Yeah, but he's not married to Bill Clinton.
If he was he'd be the front runner (but he might run into some trouble during the general election when their relationship came up for discussion).
