In search of an honest politician
Like Diogenes, I think this is getting futile, but mainly for the Pubs. There doesn't seem to be a single outstanding Pub out there with the same values many citizens want and covet.

But that doesn't mean that every single Dem is honest, either--not by a long shot!

I think we need to look past the parts of human failings, and try to see a whole picture of what a person stands for. Mother Theresa had her faults, too--but do they negate all those years of giving and devotion to her causes? Hardly.

We need to separate the ideals from the everyday pettiness, and see what a person is consistently like: don't take major issues where the eyes of critics are watching with derision, waiting for an error in judgement. Look instead to how the person has lived their lives, what causes they actively support, the votes (if they're in office) on the small things not on the radar, and what they were like before public service.

There isn't an honest man or woman out there--no one reaches that kind of piety, nor should they. The best we can hope for is to elect the one who will be the least detrimental to our country, its laws and its ideology.

2. Doing the right thing when nobody is looking...that's a sign of character.
Character cannot be developed in ease and quiet. Only through experience of trial and suffering can the soul be strengthened, ambition inspired, and success achieved.

doesn't:
(lewd & graphic description here)
spread their legs, bend over or give or get blow jobs for favors/funding

(i'm just disgusted after hearing wassermann-schultz on the radio today)

6. Already Some Good Politicians in Congress
I disagree with the cynics, there are some good politicians in Washington. My favorites are Kucinich, Bernie Sanders, Russ Feingold, Robert Byrd, Ted Kennedy, Jim McDermott, Barbara Lee, Peter DeFazio, Barbara Boxer, Jan Schakowsky, Keith Ellison, I would have said John Conyers (prior to him not pursuing impeachment), and probably some others I'm not aware of or too knowledgeable about.
