Hoyer not sorry about Iraq vote
By Mike Soraghan | Posted 11/5/07 10:02 a.m
November 08, 2007

House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-Md.), the number two Democrat in the House, says he stands by his vote in favor of the 2002 “use of force” authorization that led to the war in Iraq.

“Removal of Saddam Hussein was an appropriate policy,” Hoyer said at a breakfast meeting with reporters Thursday sponsored by The Christian Science Monitor. “I still believe that.”

But he added that he would not have voted for it if he had known “how incompetently it would be executed.”

Hoyer stated that he supported the resolution in 2002 because he believed it would bring Saddam to the negotiating table, and because millions of people had been murdered in Africa because United Nations resolutions had not been enforced.

He added that the concept of a “preventive strike” was a dangerous policy should it be adopted by China, India, Pakistan or other nuclear powers.

Hoyer is one of a small group of lawmakers who voted against the 1991 Gulf War and for the 2002 use of force. Unlike the 2002 vote, however, Hoyer indicated he regrets the 1991 Gulf War vote. “If I had a vote to take back in 26 years, I would take back that vote,” he said.

3. Wow. So, it's still a "good idea, poorly executed" to some Democrats?
That's really, really fucking sad and scary. Even some Republicans feel the war was a mistake all-around, not just good intentions gone awry. He should step down from his leadership role. He does not have good judgment, even in hindsight.

4. Yanno, Steny does have an opponent in the primary
Granted, his site is low-rent and his platform a tad confusing. But it's there

Anyone still trying to rationalize voting for this war of choice deserves to face at least the threat of being ousted.

5. war pig....
Generals gathered in their masses
Just like witches at black masses
Evil minds that plot destruction
Sorcerers of deaths construction
In the fields the bodies burning
As the war machine keeps turning
Death and hatred to mankind
Poisoning their brainwashed minds, oh lord yeah!

Politicians hide themselves away
They only started the war
Why should they go out to fight?
They leave that role to the poor

Time will tell on their power minds
Making war just for fun
Treating people just like pawns in chess
Wait till their judgement day comes, yeah!

Now in darkness, world stops turning
As the war machine keeps burning
No more war pigs of the power
Hand of God has sturck the hour
Day of judgement, God is calling
On their knees, the war pigs crawling
Begging mercy for their sins
Satan, laughing, spreads his wings
All right now!

11. The fact that Pelosi allowed this guy to be the Whip speaks volumes
He is one of those political functionaries who is the most corruptabel kind. He is a back room wheeler dealer and really has no morals and is concerned only with how it will look on his resume. THus he wishes he could take back his 1991 War vote....what a coward!

Bush, in his lunacy, went to war anyway. I think we all knew Bush was whacked, but I'm not sure anybody knew HOW whacked at that point.
