Forget the issues, who will have the $$$ to run against bush?
By SHARON THEIMER, Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON - President Bush (news - web sites) has raised at least $150 million since beginning his re-election effort last May, according to a campaign finance report filed Friday with the Federal Election Commission (news - web sites).

Bush raised about $12.9 million last month, the report showed. The campaign said it added 50,000 new donors in January. http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=536&e=1&u=/ap/20040220/ap_on_el_pr/presidential_money

Unlike Kerry, Edwards is taking part in the presidential public financing program, which limits his state-by-state and overall spending but also provides his campaign with a government grant each month.

Edwards expects to be eligible for about $1 million when he receives his next grant March 1, spokesman Roger Salazar said.

By opting out, Bush and Kerry have freed themselves from the program's spending caps. However, Kerry has promised to stick to the overall $45 million limit until he becomes the party's presumptive nominee.

How would Edwards compete in the General Election? and is Teresa's money a factor?

1. Theresa has said her money is a factor if her family gets attacked
They will. Kerry will garner more bucks.

4. Edwards will be limited by participating in federal limits.
By accepting federal financing he has to play by the rules. bush and Kerry opted out.

3. One million people at $200 each
Wash cars, pick up soda cans, panhandle, take up a collection on your job, whatever.

If we can get 1 million people to kick in $200 each to the Democratic nominee that'll be $200 million dollars.

Think of it like the old days when kids chipped in nickles and dimes and pennies for the Statue of Liberty.

All the grassroots folks out there? Even if you are as ticked off as I am that our candidates didn't make it (Oh, Wes, Wes, Wes, wherefore art thou, Wes?) everyone should be able to figure out that even if we don't have a ham sandwich to vote for, we will have a democrat AND lives depend on removing the present collection of evil doers from office forthwith, or at least in November.

Once the convention is over my check will be flying towards the campaign (I don't want my money being used to pick the nominee, unless its Clark, of course) to use against BushCo. That gives everyone a couple of months to scrape the lucre together.

So I don't get to buy the complete La Femme Nikita (Peta Wilson...mmmmmmm) DVD set this year. Some things are more important.

7. Thanks, Edwards seems to be limited to $45 mil in the GE with
the hope that the 527's will withstand FEC scrutiny-? (about 18mil of that from donations) Does that sound right?

9. I Think
I think that the Republican war chest will hurt them. I know that sounds odd but think about how many commercials you have seen on TV that are shown so frequently that they annoy EVERYONE. I doubt very seriously that the Democratic candidate will not have adequate funds to do anything they choose to do. Money is not going to be the problem for either side in theis race - there is plenty to go around.

10. Looks like another reason to go with Kerry!
Edwards wants to change to the topic, well sadly, it takes money to do that and he won't have enough.

12. My understanding is that Dean can't touch the money or
status of his presidential campaign. I do not have the official answer, that's why I started this.

13. If Dean has money, he needs to pay that sandwich shop owner he stiffed
He has bills to take care of with whatever money he has. I imagine he has staff to pay, too.
