Biden asks activists to ignore polls

By Ed Tibbetts | Wednesday, November 07, 2007

In the midst of answering a question Tuesday, U.S. Sen. Joe Biden, D-Del., is handed a note.

He says he’s being told U.S. Deputy Secretary of State John Negroponte is on the phone wanting to know about his talks earlier in the day with Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf.

“He’ll have to wait a few minutes,” Biden said.

If Biden wanted an exhibit in his case that he’s the Democratic presidential candidate with the most experience, Negroponte may have given it to him — at least as far as the audience of more than 120 at The Hat restaurant in Davenport is concerned

Biden trails in the polls, but he pleaded with activists Tuesday to ignore pundits and support him because of his experience, especially with foreign affairs.

“This is complicated stuff,” Biden, the chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, said. “It can’t be handled with bumper sticker slogans.”

Biden said he’s the only candidate with a plan to end the war, having proposed separating Sunni, Shiite and Kurdish factions. And he defended his decision to vote in May to fund the war.

“Even while I’m ending it, I intend on protecting the troops as I’m taking them out,” he said.

1. And the Wizard of Oz said to pay no attention to that man behind the curtain
His campaign is going nowhere.

He would make a great Secretary of State. DE has a Democratic Governor who would choose his replacement.

lol.

Biden is qualified, but its not going to happen for him.

2. Clinton said the same thing--(and I agree):

11. I agree, too, mainly because all the polls (that seem to be released hourly) present
differing statistics.

The tragedy is that many people may be swayed by, or make their decision as a result of, the polls' conclusions.

This is one wild campaign!

17. Doesn't sound as if the administration is calling on any of the "top tier"
In fact, interesting that Musharraf called Biden and not Bush. Furthermore, it appears that Musharraf is more acutely aware of our country's foremost foreign policy expert and yet our own people are having a tough time figuring it out. Hopefully, Pakistan's dictator will help teach Americans who to go to when things get serious.

4. Biden would be a wonderful SecState, but he's got no chance
of being President--mainly because he actually says what he thinks.

8. It's because he says what he thinks that drew me to him initially. I YEARN
for a President to be forthcoming after all these years of deceit. I understand your point, though.

I'm actually long-time DUer Arkana--been a member since March '04. Through a combination of unlucky circumstances, I no longer have access to the email account that my password would be sent to--and I've been too lazy to make a new one, so here I am...newbie once again.

23. When the SOS is smarter the the prez, it makes the prez look foolish.
Like Colin Powell and Dubya. We should make Biden president and have some of the other candidates serving in HIS administration. We're f**king around way too much with our country. We shouldn't pretend that it can't get much worse because it definitely can, and probably will.

25. I understand your point too, but instead of just giving in to it...
we need to stand up to it and push back. Instead of shrugging our shoulders and saying, Biden doesn't have much of a chance, we should receive it as a call to arms and start earning all the great things we've inherited as Americans by working for what's best for America. If we continue to take things for granted here, we will definitely lose them. We need to keep thinking positive and do anything and everything we can to help Joe Biden receive this much deserved nomination.

6. Many people think Joe Biden would make a great
Secretary of State. And if that's the case, he would have to be an awesome President in these troubled times we live in.

21. Above the fray
is the idea. let the lessor candidates sling the mud. If you listen long enough, even Hillary thinks he will be a great president. she alluded to him by name three times during this last debate. caught herself then another two times referred to "all the candidates on the stage" then theirs this...
http://blog.washingtonpost.com/the-trail/2007/11/06/i_would_consider_joe_biden_for.html
even She knows Biden would be a better president than she would.

And I'm in agreement with you about this gentleman. As crazy as times are right now, why settle for anything less than the best. I have more confidence in his decision making abilities than with any of the other candidates.
