Hillary will not say if waterboarding is torture??
Edited on Tue Nov-06-07 06:01 PM by elizm
I did not realize this until I read this post by Greg Sargent at TPM. Does anyone have any other links about this and Hillary not being willing to say whether she believes waterboarding is torture?

1. Hillary is pure politician. She has to stick her finger up first and test the political winds.
Then she will answer by saying everything that amounts to nothing at all.

2. HILLARY CLINTON, OBAMA AND EDWARDS ALL THREE
came out and said they did not support torture of any kind. And they would not support any one who did. Obama and Edwards were let off the hook. Some asshole says Hillary Clinton should have made it clear what kinds of torture she did not support. Well in my mind torture is torture, no matter what kind. But that's the way it goes with you guys...Hillary is held to a more searching degree than Obama and Edwards WHO SAID THE SAME THING SHE DID. And the address is too long to post. But CNN Political Ticker has the story. Search and ye shall find.

3. You guys????
Greg Sargent made the post at TPM. I was asking for links to support or refute it. Maybe you should take it up with him. As far as the address being too long to post...can't you just copy and paste so that we can go and read for ourselves?

25. No, Edwards has clearly mentioned waterboarding in his anti-Mukasey statement.

What I believe is the quote in question
"Clinton was similarly vague about how she would handle special interrogation methods used by the CIA. She said that while she does not condone torture, so much has been kept secret that she would not know unlesselected what other extreme measures interrogators are using, and therefore could not say whether she would change or continue existing policies.

"It is not clear yet exactly what this administration is or isn't doing. We're getting all kinds of mixed messages," Clinton said. "I don't think we'll know the truth until we have a new president. I think you can get in there and actually bore into what's been going on, you're not going to know."

8. Oh, yes.....that response answers the simple question...
Do you believe waterboarding is torture? It is a yes or no answer.

18. And neither of them addressed the question....
Yes, Hillary is against torture. Even the Republicans have said they are against torture. The question being asked is....does she believe waterboarding is torture? It is a simple question that Greg Sargent was asking and caused me to wonder about the same.

4. Hillary gave a great speech against torture...which would include waterboarding....
Andrew Sullivan, who supports Obama, originally attempted to go after Hillary on this subject, and had to take it back. http://andrewsullivan.theatlantic.com/the_daily_dish/2007/10/too-harsh-on-cl.html

here's is Hillary's video speech
http://andrewsullivan.theatlantic.com/the_daily_dish/2006/09/hillarys_breakt.html

As an Obama leaner (I am organizing in my neighborhood for Obama), I do not wish to see twisted 1/2 ass attacks against any of the Democrats. What they say is what they say. If they didn't say it, don't imply that they did. It is this kind of politics that will has killed our democracy.

6. Typical...This is an ATTACK?
I am asking for clarification on her stance after reading this on TPM. But according to other 'Democrats' I am not allowed to ask because it is somehow attacking her.

17. Well it would be easy to be against torture
if the only thing defined as torture is inflicting physical harm. I'd like to see her, or any candidate's definition of torture before I would congratulate them for being against it.

19. DID her speech include waterboarding??
Can't know because the video you linked to is no longer available. I wasn't asking if she opposed torture. I was asking if she believes waterboarding is or is not torture. It is a legitimate question, I think. Do you have a link to her answer?
