A much better case could be made for invading Pakistan than Iran or Iraq.
1) They have genuine WMDs (nukes) and there is a fair chance they could fall into the hands of terrorists.

2) An invasion could restore democracy and the troops could be withdrawn almost immediately.

3) Many, if not most of the Pakistanis probably would welcome the U.S. as liberators.

4) Just the threat of a U.S. invasion would probably make it unnecessary as the army would likely get rid of Musharraf and restore democracy post haste.

1. We are not the worlds police
Iraq should have taught us that.

Force is not the answer. If we seek to use force instead of ideas we are going to be a broken nation very very fast.

4. Agreed. I am not in favor of invading Pakistan. Just pointing out the broken logic of the neocons.
Using the neocon rationales a better case can be made for invading Pakistan than either Iraq OR Iran.

2. Less than 1% would greet us as liberators

5. You're assuming we want those things
Although you might be missing a :sarcasm: tag

We want colonies, bases, resources, slave labor and dictators to manage our new territories. We're no different than any other empire that's existed.

7. This is a sophisticated audience. Sarcasm tags should not always be needed.
At least that is what I thought. Now, not so sure.

9. I never assume, even here
I've seen people pushing for preemptive wars on DU and other such non-legal behavior...but seeing as I saw it as sarcasm, I kept that comment in there

8. The scary thing about Pakistan to me is that
they already HAVE nuclear weapons whereas Iran is only trying to get them. Al Qaeda is very active in Pakistan and has already tried twice to take out Musharraf, and recently tried to kill Ms Bhutto as soon as she arrived in the country. If these terrorists should manage to get control of Pakistan going in there would no longer be an option, it would be a necessity. Right now the US is incapable of going anywhere, what with the bulk of our military in Afghanistan and Iraq. What a mess we face.

10. Well, #1 applies to Russia, too. Maybe even Israel.
North Korea.

#3? Please. Don't make me puke. That is one of the most delusional statements ever posted on DU.

As to the army getting rid of Musharraf, I think that is going to happen regardless.

11. Irony. It is irony. It was not meant to be taken seriously. None of it.
I was parroting neocon arguments on Iraq and Iran and applying them to Pakistan to show the illogic of it all. Ok I am chastened. I won't do it again. Didn't anyone get the irony?
