Poll question: Hillary Clinton Gender-Based Poll.
Edited on Mon Nov-05-07 12:58 AM by calteacherguy
A poster here on DU recently quipped regading those who do not support Hilllary Clinton for the nomination:

"Most of the time it's males. Hillary threatens their masculinity."

I'm trying to find out if this poster is correct....

2. Looks Like You're Getting More Women Who Do Not Support HRC
…which would shoot that theory out of the water.

Though even if you got more men, that says nothing about why those men would prefer someone else.

It seems that some HRC supporters want to have it both ways.

They come out with stuff like this, yet when we call them on the real reason that many of us don't support Hillary Clinton — the war(s) — they say that she has to take very hawkish positions to compensate for being a woman!

Cough.

3. Yes, next it will be "Women don't support Hillary because

they're jealous of her."

Why do people of both sexes and all ages not support HRC?

"It's the positions, stupid."

67. Good point! As I said in another Hillary thread,

I'd love to have a woman president, but not this woman.

"It's the issues, stupid."

(That's a reference to Carville/Begala slogan for Bill C.'s campaign, for those younger DUers who may not remember. I'm not calling anyone stupid.)

4. It's not my masculinity that I feel she threatens
It's my sense of reason and common sense.

Common sense dictates that Universal Health Care cannot be controlled by greedy HMOs yet she fails to understand such.

Common sense dictates that we pull out of Iraq and not engage in war with Iran, yet she makes foolish votes to ramp up the rhetoric and drumbeat of war towards Iran.

Common Sense says that at a time when poverty is growing rapidly and a large portion of high paying jobs are being exported due to one sided free trade agreements that instead of continuing with such a policy and forcing all those employed to take a job or two that pays half or less than their previous one did, that we eliminate or seriously alter these agreements.

Hillary has the big name, the big donors and the media/corporations behind her.

Not supporting her has NOTHING to do with Gender and everything to do with what and whom she supports.

23. People lie on polls
Look how many times someone starts a thread with

"DU this poll" Spreading BS and skewing polls is a hobby on the internets

"and never will, support HRC." It just doesn't get more pathetic than that. The fact

that so-called dems would rather have a repuke is another reason why women are still second class citizens.

Edited on Mon Nov-05-07 01:37 PM by FREEWILL56
if people lie on polls or will this be another case of only the polls we say are good stay?
As to the votes, you get those by addressing real issues and not by crying poor me or spinning. If hillary is elected you'll still be that same second class citizen you feel you are as she isn't going to change anything in that regard and in fact if you aren't a ceo or rich it will be even worse for you as she'll snub you as a nobody making it a class issue too. Gee, then you can cry about it happening from a woman in charge.

65. I believe that your post infers
that the people voting in this particular poll are liars. I voted. I didn't lie. I don't like the broad brush smear.

If "people lie on polls," then no poll should be given any weight. I suggest that campaigns and the media quit focusing attention on polls and start focusing attention on issues.

32. When the theory has to do with the attitudes of DU'ers...
... then it certainly is.

But you're welcome to cling to your comforting misconception.

If the entire basis for your belief that DUers hate Hillary because we're all woman-hating men rests on the belief that all the respondents lied to this poll, then there is very little that can be done to encourage you to drop your predjudices.

We claim to be morally superior to other countries because of our equal treatment of women and minorities. It's time for us to prove it. They're all the same, so I wouldn't mind having a woman president this time around.

I would LOVE to have a woman president, but not just any woman. I do think it's time this country put a female in as POTUS, but I can't support the policies of Senator Clinton. There's no doubt that she is the forerunner on Pro-Life issues and I will say (begrudgingly) that I trust Senator Clinton implicitly when it comes to that issue...however, this next administration is going to be dealing with issues that are far more pressing (notice that I did not say "important"), especially on the foreign relations front, and my feeling is that Sen. Clinton is simply not the best qualified in that regard.

40. There are only three ways someone reading the poll could lie.
People who respond that they are of the other gender
People who respond that they support/don't support Hillary
People who hold a view who refrain from voting.

I'm a man who doesn't support Hillary yet. As a male, it seems I'm in the minority among those of us who don't support her primary candidacy.

It's hard to imagine what would motivate someone to lie about this fairly benign and anonymous poll.

It seems apparent that her gender is not a primary source for her support/opposition.

66. I love these people that count chickens before they hatch.
I also was going to suggest a new poll and that in order to be counted in the poll you had to check in with a post identifying yourself male/female and for/against, but you can't verify that when hillary supporters hide their gender in their profile. There is much to say about people that hide imho. It's not that they are in danger of a predator, but that they are predators.
