3. I am in agreement with you, but now the question is how does this come about?
You have a House Speaker who has taken Impeachment off of the table... So is there another way to do this without there participation?

8. You bring up via Privilaged Resolution.
Dennis explained it as he'll rise and make the motion, someone will rise to table it, and the vote to table will either allow debate (and probable passage) or put it on ice. Even if it fails, we'll know who stands for the Constitution.

Call your House members and e-mail to vote yes on the motion (not to table) and then yes on impeachment!

Go Dennis! :woohoo:

4. Impeaching cheney is better than nothing, but impeaching one. . .
Edited on Thu Nov-01-07 08:13 PM by pat_k
. . .without the other cannot be reconciled with the realities of our national crisis. They are partners in crime. The ONLY way to unequivocally reject torture and reject their "defense" (the fascist fantasy of unitary authoritarian power) is to impeach them BOTH for turning Americans into torturers.

Impeachment is a defensive act. It seeks to stop destructive abuses by removing the abuser's power to abuse. Impeaching Cheney only doesn't achieve the goal. Impeaching Bush only doesn't do it. To impeach one without the other undermines the case that the pair of them are committing intolerable acts in the name of the American people that must be stopped by immediately removing them both.

I'll take "impeach cheney first" over "impeach nobody," but I fear that "cheney first" is not only illogical, it is an ineffective "call to arms" since it doesn't "do the job."

Not to mention that impeaching cheney doesn't actually defy Pelosi's immoral "off the table" pledge (Her "pledge" was limited to Bush.)

(You still get a Rec! tho :patriot: )

though I agree with impeaching and removing Dick first. That way he can't become President.

6. Because such self-defeating prophecies got us into this horrifying mess.
Edited on Thu Nov-01-07 08:42 PM by pat_k
Of course you can't win if you refuse to fight.

Win or lose, every single person we engage in the battle to "cure" our impeachophobic leaders is more likely to join us in future battles. We are building our ranks. We are testing ourselves. We are connecting to others and bringing our skills to the table. We are learning what works and what doesn't. We are becoming more effective agents of change.

Declaring ourselves to be powerless and refusing to challenge our leaders does nothing but sow the hopelessness and apathy that fascists need to thrive. It is not realism; it is destructive pessimism.

The excuses they are blathering for refusing to impeach are the same excuses we have been hearing whenever principle demands action. As we challenge and chip away at those rationalizations we aren't just fighting to make impeachment a reality; we are challenging the irrational thinking that has been destroying the Party for decades. Thinking that will continue to destroy the Party if we don't take it on.

As we lobby our leaders and rip apart their bogus excuses, we are in not only fighting for the future of the nation; we are fighting for the future of the Party. We are fighting to save them from their own self-destructive and immoral aversion to standing and fighting for the things they claim to care about.

11. When you ELECT leaders in a representative democracy
such as ours, you delegate the responsibility of making decisions to THEM.
We don't live in a "decision by push buttons by citizens" type of democracy.
We elect people the majority trusts, and then they are to look out for our
interests to THEIR best judgement.

If you don't like what they have done, vote for someone else next time. Every
issue has usually two sides. Is the congress supposed to take a poll on each
issue everytime? NO!! That is not how it works.

18. ??? Are you serious?? Citizen Lobbyists should just shut up and go home??
Edited on Fri Nov-02-07 03:49 PM by pat_k
Leave it to the "professional" lobbyists do all the persuading??

I am flabbergasted.

Politics doesn't end with electoral politics. It begins there. Making our wishes known, and making sure we have a seat at the table as the men and women we elect figure out ways to solve our common problems IS Politics.

The fascist factions would LOVE to see people follow your "go home and shut up, you job is finished" dictate.

19. We are talking about impeachment here
All of us have already made our views known to Pelosi, Reed etc.
They have heard BOTH sides and made the decision to not waste
time on impeachment. Now stop hounding them!! You are beginning
to look like incorrigible kids.

But you are right about making your wishes known to them on issues.
And you ALREADY HAVE on this issue.

16. Energy for what, exactly?
Is something else going to be accomplished in the face of filibuster, veto, and in the end monarchical (and impeachable) "Rule By Signing Statement?"

Not likely.

Failure to impeach is the "sure loser" message. It is complicty with -- approval of -- exoneration for this war criminal regime.

We allow it at our peril.

20. That is YOUR opinion, and obviously that is not the majority
opnion. In this type of democracy you don't always get all
your wishes. Rep Pelosi & Sen Reed have examined all the
pro's and con's of trying to start impeachment procedures
and decided against it. I guess cooler heads have prevailed.

21. It is demonstrable reality
All energy spent thus far has been wasted, without result.

Reid and Pelosi have merely rashly dismissed impeachment.

It is we who have the cooler heads. And may yet prevail.

13. I'm checking is as well and I'm a recent convert to this idea. After seeing Naomi
Wolf's talk at the UW, I realize what danger we are in with each day that passes with Bushco at the helm.

Previously I felt there were so many other crucial issues that needed to be addressed, that impeachment would draw off the energy and ability to pursue solutions for those. I thought that "it'll be okay - they'll be out of office soon enough".

Now I'm of the belief that they can do so much damage in the time remaining - much of it irreparable- that for the future of our country, we need to remove them NOW.

14. Impeach to reveal the facts.
Edited on Thu Nov-01-07 09:57 PM by Gregorian
I don't give a damn about Little Boy Bush. Or The Big Bad Cheney.

Impeachment will subpoena the facts. And they'll be revealed. And the world will see the truth, unfiltered by the conservative media hype. Period.

This is about America. Not about punishment. I could care less if Bush is convicted. Bush will be forgotten the second he leaves office. America lives on.
