Brian & Tim & Barack & John: holding hands like blubbering babies...

LET’S PLAY TEE-BALL! Welch’s Lost Boys went after the witch, tee-ing it up for their brothers

<edit>

And we’ve refused to discuss the conduct which Dowd correctly describes in that passage. If you watched the debate, you saw what occurred: In fact, Russert and Williams “teed it up” for Obama and Edwards all night long. (Presumably, Dowd had an early deadline.) We thought their performance was simply stunning; there has never been a debate like it. That said, we thought Garance Franke-Ruta, live-blogging the session, had the eyes and the guts to see and say what was happening half-way through. She posted this at 9:57 Eastern, when the gang-bang staged by these weak-minded boys had reached a remarkable level:

FRANKE-RUTA: OK, this is now everybody—and I do mean everybody—against Clinton. It makes her look brave for just standing there, this small determined woman being attacked by three men on either side of her, two male moderators, and the entire male Republican field. Each of the critics on his own would be more effective, but taken as whole, the optics of this are uncomfortable.

In retrospect, we’ll go beyond that; in fact, the optics were pitiful. It was sad to see that Obama and Edwards would take part in such a Salem witch-dunk; of all the boys who stood on the stage, only Richardson had the decency to announce that he wouldn’t be part of it. (God bless the occasional man who stands up and says he won’t do this.) Of course, our nominee doesn’t have to be a woman to provoke this kind of ugly reaction; in Campaign 2000, the Dem nominee was a man, so Dowd just imagined that he was a woman, announcing that Gore was “so feminized he’s practically lactating.” (As has been quite plain for years, this person is deeply unwell.) But when the Democratic front-runner is a real woman, the press corps’ multimillionaire culture warriors don’t have to imagine they’re slaying a lady. They can savage her right in the flesh! What a shame that Big Dems played along.

In the next few days, with transcripts (presumably) available, we’ll take a look at the remarkable questions posed last night by Welch’s Lost Boys. (We’ll compare them to the lazy softballs their island-mate served at the last GOP debate.) They were hired to serve this purpose, and they’ve served this purpose quite well; they trashed your nominee during Campaign 2000, and sent the world’s dumbest man to the White House. But if you tend to doubt the fact that their souls are driven by a gender madness, we’ll close today with a report from last night’s NBC Nightly News. The headline comes to us straight from Nexis. This really is the way someone at NBC News viewed last evening’s event. Look for men to go after Clinton, some poor broken loser cried out:

<edit>

At any rate, the “men” did go after Clinton last night—holding hands like blubbering babies, looking like frightened, wet-legged boys. Brian and Tim and Barack and John learned an inspiring lesson last night—if the four hold hands and help each other, they can work up their courage to dunk the vile witch. Yes, they did the same thing to Candidate Gore, simply pretending that he was a woman. But this will be done to Democratic front-runners as long as we Dems and libs permit it. And uh-oh! If the work of our brilliant web leaders provides clues, this will go on for a very long time. So will Republican control of the White House.

1. Boys don't hit girls
I knew she would eventually get around to using this.

For such an experienced pro, she sure did look stunned.
Everybody in the audience knew it was coming/ was waiting for it.
Obama's and Edward's supporters have been waiting anxiously for some sparks to fly.
I guess Richardson wants to be Hillary's VP.

I for one am glad she took some hits, nobody should coast to the nomination, ever.

You can't have it both ways.

I'm just like any other candidate/ You guys are being mean to me and I'm just a girl

2. So, a pileon makes a clever citizen feel cleverer?
Another thing, she's coasting? Who knew? Hillary get out of bed, you're coasting. They want to to do some work to earn the nomination! Oh, and all the complaining you're doing, it's not working! <sigh>

41. She's playing both sides and hoping nobody notices
She stands up and campaigns that she is the one who can take a punch from the republicans.
Then when she actually gets some pointed accusations coming her way,
probably far friendlier than those that will come in the GE.
She goes right to " Those boys are being mean to me"

It undercuts her whole campaign.
I still think she's the overwhelming favorite to win

3. If Hillary wants to be president and is portraying herself as this ultra
I;m tough as nails and more than anyone else, then one night of tough questions is hardly room to cry.
To cry sexism after a totally easy ride and being feted like a queen, never being pressed for evading and ducking, it's totally bogus.
It's insulting to women.
If I was running I'd want to be treated equally. Why get special treatment, as she has been all primary, simply because she is a woman. What happens if she is with a bunch of leaders who don't agree and they are angry. Is she going to cry sexism and play victim?
she is the frontrunner. It is far past time for her claims to be tested.
Having the kid glove treatment since her announcement while the others have suffered alot of tough questions and getting beat up on, to have one tough night because she refuses to answer vital questions, give me a break!

6. This piece says exactly what I was feeling. Edwards and Obama...and frankly the rest of them
got in bed with the media--the same media that will destroy them the second they win the nomination.

It was so ugly. And what is worse, is that the people on DU--so happy to see her fall a bit, is willing to cheer for it. "as long as dems and liberals permit it."

That is why I cannot think of Edwards the same anymore.

Richardson showed his Character in the debate.

30. Media declared?
The Media is complicit in attempting to tear her down. Do you watch/read the same media some of us do? Wait till you see Wolfie's performance in the next Dem debate and compare it to Williams/Russert/Matthews and see if there's any difference. Just maybe this last debacle of a debate will force these "moderators" to ask the same valid questions of ALL the candidates and require answers to said questions instead of Russert's BS "gotcha questions" and his silly commentary disguised as questions as if he were questioning someone on the witness stand. "Do you Senator Clinton here today testify"....

20. Exactly..
Some of us were saying just what this piece so eloquently describes but we were using "gang bang" and "rape" to describe what took place. It began with Williams lobbing a sucker pitch to Obama and went downhill from there. Yeah Obama hit a home run...in a rained out ballgame.

Quoting myself here: "Don't forget that Tweety picked up where the "moderators" left off. The headlines this morning all mostly mention Hillary being ATTACKED by her fellow candidates but they fail to mention the "moderators." It's a replay of "Gotcha Gore" by the M$M and last night should put to rest the fable that Hillary is being propped up and being "shoved down our throats" by same M$M.

14. Obama and Edwards took part in the Salem witch-dunk concocted by the msm, to wit timmy and tweety.
If either Obama or Edwards believe the swift boating of the democratic nominee for 2008 will not make the swift boating of Kerry look like baby food, they are mindless, unintelligent, clueless idiots.

Having both of them begin the msm seige against Hillary indicates to me they are more hollow than I ever imagined. Edwards' character assination against Hillary is disgraceful beyond the boundary fence.

They both should be ashamed of themselves.

15. making perfectly valid criticism of Hillary, based on her actual record/platform isn't swiftboating.
Apparently Hillary thinks she can be declared inevitable and everyone else can just give up?

Hillary should be the one ashamed for not being able to take a clear, firm position based on principle without running it by a focus group and her advisors and consultants.

Edited on Thu Nov-01-07 10:00 AM by Maribelle
Which rule do you quote that forces Hillary to make a stand on gotcha questions?

Where on earth does it say Hillary must make black and white decisions on what a governor of any state is doing?

Show me proof that Hillary has anything at all to do with White House documents?

Hillary has been clear on Social Security, contrary to the lies of Edwards. Too bad he couldn't grow a brain and is too buried in his low numbers to understand what she was saying. Hollow man, that Edwards.

Obama's war rattling is based on a false premise. But oh how he loves to beat on those war drums, fear fear fear, boom boom boom. The problem is Obama's followers are so brain dead they gobble up anything he rattles, wouldn't even comprehend the false premise, and Obama will never clue them in.

Their criticism of Hillary was totally unsupported by fact, not hardly objective.

22. Exactly, ... also
Much of the picture depends on your own personal interpretation. I winced during the previous 2 debates as Clinton was handed neatly wrapped questions tied in a big bow time and time again. It is how I saw it. I'm pretty sure that many didn't see it in the same way that I did.

We seriously should not be tearing each other up. Because I can't find it within myself to support Clinton at this time (much as I have tried), I don't see her as the enemy. We all have a major war to win in 2008 regardless of who ends up as our candidate and we'll need each other. IMO
