Edwards or Biden are the only reasonable alternatives to Hillary
Edited on Wed Oct-31-07 08:57 PM by ruggerson
Edwards was focused, passionate and showed real spunk last night. To those who say he won't be a strong contender against the Republican slime machine, I think you're dead wrong. He gets better and better at the debates. His message is strong and clear and it resonates. And Elizabeth is a huge plus.

Biden, once again, showed himself to be engaging, smart, creative and witty. He is a legitimate and solid choice to be our standard bearer. Again, he would wipe the floor with any Republican in a general election debate. He's gotten much better at controlling his long windedness, and is starting to fluidly and engagingly project just how smart he really is.

If we end up with these three, Edwards, Biden and Clinton, as our main choices coming out of Iowa and New Hampshire, I think it's the strongest field in a generation, and I'd be very confident and happy with any of them.

18. One has to have character before there is any character assassination
The worst lie Hillary told was about her records being held at the National Archives. She could have told Bill to release them, and said that during the debate, instead of blaming the Archives for the records not being released.

As David Geffen said, is not that the Clintons lie, is that they lie with such ease.

am impressed also with the consistent range and skill this OP demonstrates in expressing himself on these boards. Direct, clear, impressive use of language in the service of demonstrable points.

It's a pleasure to be the 2nd rec on this one.

I was just thinking about you and wondering where you were.

I agree with your praise of the OP, but then I usually agree with you.

We'll exchange disparaging remarks on the Bush administration.

4. I can name other reasonable alternatives.
Though I could vote for either Biden or Edwards if it came down to that (and unlike many here, I'm damn picky now).

5. Edwards
would be killed in the GE. He would not be able to position himself in the GE after his primary performance in a credible way. All his rhetoric is netroots stuff, not gonna play well in the big game.

9. I don't quite agree
All candidates switch gears for the general after winning the primary, and Edwards is no exception. I see no position he has taken which he would have trouble defending.

Of course, you have been anti-Edwards for years now so your analysis is no surprise.

13. I agree that Biden, Clinton and Edwards are the three strongest candidates
running.

Any one of them could take on the opposition in the GE. All three have had experience in the political arena. All three debate well.

I know people are tired of hearing this opinion, but for Obama's sake and the country's, he needs to wait a few more years until he's launched into that mad, mad world.

in the reverse order. Biden Like he said he "Is running to be the leader of the free world." where as Edwards is still merely running for the president of the United States. Biden/Edwards Ticket has a special ring to it I must admit. However it may be insulting to ask Edwards to be The second again. I think Biden Should be the Boss as he has continuously stayed in the trench of the senate getting things done. Edwards hasn't. It would Impress me as to Edwards character if he were to accept #2. as giving of himself, overcoming his ego, For America.

16. Hillary is a dud. Dodd is far better and more experienced than she is.
In case you haven't noticed, Hillary is on the wrong side of the illegal aliens issue. Giving drivers' licenses to people that are not even supposed to be in this country is not something Hillary will be able to sell in Peoria.

It'd be Dukakis all over again.
But at least the Duke was a real liberal.

23. Biden'sthe guy, no contest. But I would saythat I like Obama more than Clinton, especially now
that Clinton is exposing her uncertainty on big issues, and Obama has wisely begun adopting all of Joe Biden's original ideas :). I like Edwards a lot, too, all though he seems too much of a "politician" to me and has run to the left for the primary, and won't do as well in the gen. election as Biden. Biden is also more likely to bring about bigger changes as president, I believe, because he is more of a uniter and consensus builder, and can bring moderate republicans around to support real legislation.

...my 2 cents.
