"I helped to bring health care to six million children while in the White House."
1. What is Senator Clinton referring to?

2. How did she help do this? Pillow talk? Working the phones?

3. "While in the White House" ?

3. uh... what's your point?
The State Children’s Health Insurance Program (SCHIP) is a national program in the United States that provides health insurance for families who earn too much money to qualify for Medicaid, yet cannot afford to buy private insurance. The program was created to address the growing number of children in the United States without health insurance. At its creation in 1997, SCHIP was the largest expansion of health insurance coverage for children in the United States since Medicaid began in the 1960s. The statutory authority for SCHIP is under title XXI of the Social Security Act. It was initially sponsored by Senator Ted Kennedy in a partnership with the then-First Lady of the United States, Hillary Rodham Clinton.

SCHIP covered 6.9 million children at some point during Federal fiscal year 2006, and every state has an approved plan.

Four years after the Universal Health Care proposal failed, Hillary Clinton helped pass the State Children's Health Insurance Program (S-CHIP.) She helped negotiate the bill with Congress and later was the point person working to ensure that parents across the country knew about the program and signed up their children. "Over the course of a year, the program, financed jointly by the federal government and the states, provides health insurance to six million children in families that have too much income to qualify for Medicaid but not enough to buy private insurance." (New York Times, 3/14/07)

13. A First Lady can't "sponser" a bill
A sponser must be a member of Congress.

10. Why are these attacks against a Democrat posed here on DU?
Do you really doubt that her heart is in the right place? I am not a fan of Hillary's but I hardly doubt that she is honest when she says she wants to give health care to those in need. And, yes, she was in the White House...she was First Lady for 8 years...Nancy Reagan practically ran the frickin country while ronnie vegetated in the west wing...you don't believe that some First Ladies have had some input in policy making decisions? I just don't know what drives some of these attacks? Do you hate her that much?

14. Because we are busy selecting the person who will represent the
Democratic Party in 2008. It would be nice to select all 8 of the current candidates and maybe throw in Gore and Feingold as well, but we have to choose just one. I would prefer not to be faced with a choice between Republican and Republican lite next fall.
