I support drivers' licenses for undocumented workers but I am not willing to give the Rethuglicans a wedge issue to defend it... I will go to the ramparts to defend the rights of gays, choice, the rights of undocumented workers who have been here for years not to be summarily shipped out,protecting Social Security from privatization, etcetera but I am not willing to hand the Rethugs a gift wrapped wedge issue if that's what driver's licenses for undocumented workers is...

maybe then they would actually drive the speed limit. I can always tell the illegals on the roads; because they don't want to be pulled over, they tend to drive under the speed limit and driving dangerously slow can be just as bad as driving dangerously fast.

Let see, these folks broke the law in crossing our border illegally, many of them are using fake Social Security numbers to work here (another illegal act) ... so we should let them have a legal document, a driver's license, and maybe they'll drive the speed limit?

Get real. Taking jobs from Americans by allowing themselves to be exploited is not good for citizen laborers in this nation, it is not good for the illegal exploited worker, and, in particular, it is not good for Mexico because it lets the current corrupt government stay in power.

This will only be a wedge issue if progressives and Democrats are so out of touch with middle America that they don't see what illegal aliens are doing to our standard of living. You may not like it, but Lou Dobbs, Thom Hartmann and others who are talking about the 'war on the middle class' are tapping into a very real issue for millions and millions of American voters.

There is no way they can be "rounded up" and sent home without putting together a security apparatus which would have made Hitler and Stalin blush...

and they're going to drive on our roads licensed or not. At least allowing them to have licenses will enable theme to buy insurance, so there is some recourse when they cause accidents.

How can it even be an issue when non-US citizens are driving hundreds, maybe thousands of trucks on our roads.

Unlicensed drivers are more dangerous than li scened drivers, and Mexican Truckers are more dangerous than American Truckers.

I don't see why this should be a wedge issue. It should be framed as public safety and paired with the outsourcing of our trucking jobs to Mexican companies.
