But Some of Us are Brave
All of the threads on the Obama campaign's concerts in South Carolina brought to mind a major book in women's studies. The title was All the Women are White, All the Blacks are Men, But some of us are Brave:Black Women's Studies.

It seems that there is an underlying conception now that the GLBT community is White and all the Blacks are straight. Black GLBT people are rarely even thought of. Divide and conquer is a tool of oppression, any progressive people need to be careful not tu use it, even unintentionally. One of my favorite quotes is "Freedom is indivisible or it is nothing besides sloganeering and short-sighted and short-lived gains for a few..." from June Jordan.

As someone who is Black and Gay, it does hurt that Obama does not completely get it when it comes to equality. Unfortunately, only two of the Democratic candidates do. But, I think he does get coalition building, and he does get a vision of a better America with a better politics. I am still willing to give that vision a chance.
