Frank Rich column: It's time to wake up Congress

http://www.nytimes.com/2007/10/14/opinion/14rich2.html?th&emc=th

"Our humanity has been compromised by those who use Gestapo tactics in our war. The longer we stand idly by while they do so, the more we resemble those “good Germans” who professed ignorance of their own Gestapo. It’s up to us to wake up our somnambulant Congress to challenge administration policy every day. Let the war’s last supporters filibuster all night if they want to. There is nothing left to lose except whatever remains of our country’s good name."

4. respectfully disagree. Flood their offices with phone calls, email, and letters - Congress
WILL notice - especially those who are up for re-election.

Let's be pro-active folks!!! (yes - I know we have been active, but we can't give up now)

5. It's frustrating because we've been doing this for years.
Remember how we called around the clock before "Shock and Awe"? They ignored us.

7. yes but the repugs are feeling a bit "exposed" this election cycle, they want to keep their jobs
so I think they will be more likely to listen than before. I mean 2006 was a real kick in the cajones to Karl Roves plan for a permanent GOP majority... The Dems in Congress have completely failed to capitalize on their victory much less actually LEAD, but the repubs there can taste the fear of being tossed out on an individual level. They no longer feel invincible, THAT might make them more willing to listen.

6. I think that's a cop-out
It's easy to absolve ourselves of responsibility if we insist that everything is out of our control.

It's not out of our control. We have responsibility for our own government. And, as much as people claim otherwise, we actually DO have power over our representatives. But as long as we don't use it, keeping quiet because "they cannot be awakened without corporate cash," we ensure that they DO remain accountable - to the people whom they actually hear from.
