Hillary Clinton leads GOP rival Rudy Giuliani in three key swing states, a new poll showed yesterday, prompting Team Clinton to mock Team Rudy for boasting he would clobber her in November 2008.
The latest Quinnipiac poll showed Clinton leading Giuliani in Florida, Ohio and Pennsylvania by 3 to 6 points, a dramatic reversal from six months ago, when Giuliani led in those states.
The poll comes a week after the Giuliani campaign sought to portray him as the strongest candidate to run against Clinton. The campaign released hypothetical electoral maps showing Clinton with a definitive win over Giuliani in - drum roll, please - only two states.
"For most Americans, MapQuest is a Web site that provides directions. For Mayor Giuliani, it's the task of trying to figure out creative ways to camouflage the fact that he's losing to Sen. Clinton," zinged Blake Zeff, a Clinton spokesman, in reference to the maps.
Maria Comella, a Giuliani spokeswoman, stood firm, saying, "Mayor Giuliani is the only Republican candidate who can be competitive in all 50 states in the general election and ultimately beat the Democratic nominee in November."
