It looks like a concerted effort to get rid of food banks
Edited on Fri Oct-05-07 09:20 AM by Stargazer99
My city Puyallup Washington and now Tacoma Washington has told food banks they must move. Puyallup's excuse is that the food bank is located under a freeway and if the building caught fire motorist would be endangered. So far no replacement area has been located. And I learned through a "deep throat" that the food bank was being CHARGED RENT. How do you like that? The food bank being threatened if they gave out information about the terms the city has made for them (the city knows it is a rotten deal they've given the food bank and don't want people to know).Like the City of Puyallup is so poor they need rent! The city of Puyallup has built a new library and in the process of building new city offices. If they can do that certainly some of this new building has room for the food bank. But nothing of the kind is occurring.
Now I read the food bank in Tacoma is being kicked out of their building because some capitalist bought the building (some people in this society have too much money). They've found a building in Lakewood WA but $13,000 is needed as bare minimum in electrical updates to be able to use the freezer and refrigerators.
The people that work the food bank give their time voluntarily, you would think this "generous" nation would have some solutions besides rent and renovation.
According to Bush the economy is just fine...FOR WHO I ask? Are those that pull money out of the system the only people who count?
If each electrical contractor in these cities/counties would volunteer some time and the city pay for the actual electrical elements that must be used...Lakewood could continue serving the most vunerable in this state, the old, the children, and the unemployed. But apparently those that have money (usually Republican/Conservatives)can't be bothered to help or this is their way of getting the "undesirables" out of the city.
I'd like to contact Chaevez or another country for some foreign-aid to keep the food banks in service to those who need it the most. But knowing this well fed, well housed and well medically insured who ARE IN CONTROL OF THIS COUNTRY would make damn sure that didn't happen.
All those RW churches that are "pro-life" just sit on their self-rightous rear ends and do nothing.
This nation leaves something to be desired and on more than one front. Instead of solving some of the problems of homelessness and hunger the solution for the comfortable is to push out those in need. And I'm supposed to feel proud and loyal to this nation?

1. Jesus! Where is Madam DeFarge when you need her?
If the Dems do not win in'08 or govern as a servant for the people, this nation will explode in a decade. This attempt to upscale the country at the same time creating a nation angry peasants does not work, and people are going to suffer.
2008, It was the best of times, It was the worst of times....

I used to live in Tacoma years ago, and we went to the Puyallup Fair, (man, that is one commercail operation).
