Presidential hopeful John Edwards was in town again, this time to “meet with doctors about his healthcare plan.”
The meeting just happened to be at the hospital affiliated with one of the biggest Democratic party donors in the state, but Edwards was hoping to walk out of the room with nothing more than a few ideas.
Of course he was.
The supposed populist spent all of a few hours in the Valley, then got the heck out of town without seeing a single real person. And by real, I mean someone with a salary in the mid-to-low five figures.

In fact, the only national candidate to make an actual public appearance in the last four election cycles was Dennis Kucinich in 2004, well after John Kerry had locked up the Democratic nomination.
Dennis Kucinich? That’s the best either party has had to offer since Bill Clinton arrived to great fanfare in 1996?
I’m not begrudging the candidates their fund-raising, even their grandstanding. It’s unfortunate, but both are part of the political process.
Still, for God’s sake, is it too much to stick around long enough to talk to people?
